@wildgrass saidIf this Hegseth character is doing something illegal, you guys have courts over there right? AI helps to counteract the nonsensical lies posted here sometimes .. Eg this guy 1stcyr has posted that welfare fraud is less than 5%. From what I read in many states there are $$ Billions of fraud especially in medicaid. No way that is less than 5%.
Yikes you love it when AI can do your thinking for you. Compare it to military budgets, that's the point here.
Pete Hegseth bought a $20,000 violin with tax dollars just because he needed to spend the money. That's more money than a SNAP recipient receives all year... for FOOD!

@Rajk999 saidIn no way am I arguing that what Hegseth is doing is illegal. Our government permit it because the military gets a blank check.

It is wrong. The same guy who says people in the military need to lose weight and get in shape spends $9 million on crab legs?
Billions in fraud is WAY WAY less than 5%. Do you know how numbers work?
@wildgrass saidAnother example of how bad government is at fiscal discipline.
New York State spends about $80 billion per year to educate 3.5 million kids. I take your point it's likely too much. But that's the budget for the whole state, and its the most expensive state in the country for pre-college education.
Pete Hegseth just spent $93 billion in 5 days on completely frivolous items just to max out their spending. He spent $9 million just on c ...[text shortened]...

You don't think that pork-barrel nonsensical spending is limited to Pete Hegseth, do you?

@sh76 saidPork barrel is the wrong term, but I understand the meaning.

I know that the wasteful spending nonsense is uniquely bad in the War/Defense Department. While most departments and agencies track and report where the money goes, most Defense (sorry, War) spending has no paper trail at all. Other agencies get audited and require transparent reporting. Defense does not do either of those things. Other agencies also need to consider the cost of something before doing it. Defense does not do that. Other agencies also have accountability so if someone gets caught buying $9 million worth of crab legs with tax dollars, they go to prison. Defense does not do that either.
As a result, Defense spending is absurdly out of whack with needs. You cannot say the same about education. Again, I'll point to the fact that entire population of school kids in New York State are being educated for less money than what Pete Hegseth just spent in 5 days on frivolous toys and expensive food items. And that's just what was reported.
Of course there's "other examples" outside of defense. But you are pretending they are all on the same level.
@wildgrass saidMoney spent on defense in a world that hates you is money well spent, especially when they have already infiltrated and killed thousands of Americans.

Money spent to feed a bunch of fat lazy bums, most of whom are illegals, is wasted and should be stopped.

@Rajk999 saidNo, that's the whole point. They're wasting billions on luxury food items and streaming services, it has nothing to do with actual defense. Even the stuff that you might consider to be defense-related is extremely wasteful, for example the $10 trillion we have spent on our nuclear arsenal. The same goal could have been accomplished with 10% of that budget, and no one knows where the rest of the money went.

Send me the link so I will have a read. Hope its not too long. Anyway one of those AI programs can summarise it.
@Rajk999 saidJust ask AI about it, I'm sure it can pull up the news stories. The monthly bill for ribeye steak at the Pentagon is $15 million.

I know people who used to work for other government agencies. They could not even expense a cup of coffee.

@wildgrass saidI read some of it. Yes, there is waste in the Pentagon. There is waste in all of government. Apparently these military guys eating and drinking the best .. expensive steaks, crab legs etc etc, and suppliers, knowing the loopholes are bumping up the contracts. Some of these are prosecutable. If the waste is legal then the laws are at fault.

However, I much rather these guys enjoy their lives and eat and drink and waste taxpayers money, than the Somalians and Muslims who are here illegally or here to destroy the US, and kill US citizens.

That's because you don't pay our taxes.
Both you and sh76 are pretending that wasteful spending on military budget vs. other government is the same. It is not the same. You cannot get away with buying $15 million worth of steak at other government agencies. You'd go to prison. The irony that they are engorging themselves in the Pentagon offices with donuts, steak, lobster tail and expensive furniture at the same time that Pete Hegseth is lecturing all the generals who are out in the field to eat less and get in shape is appalling.
@wildgrass saidUS security means security for the entire western world. Maybe you did not know that. All of the western world depends on the US to control the threat of Islam and communism/socialism.However, I much rather these guys enjoy their lives and eat and drink and waste taxpayers money

So you pay the tax, and I will voice support for your military, and condemn your welfare paid to illegal immigrants and Muslims.

We have 5,500 tanks that each cost $10 million to build and another $10 million just to move. What does that do for security? Do we need more? How many more? If we need more, then why spend the money on crab legs? How do we know when its enough? Who's in charge of deciding that?
Apparently we only used 56 of those tanks in the whole Iraq war. The Ukraine war has shown that even the most modern tank can be completely destroyed using a handful of drones that cost a few thousand dollars. Tanks seem unnecessary and a complete waste of money but maybe I'm missing something.
@wildgrass saidLet me fix that ..

We have 11,000,000 illegal immigrants that each cost $256,000,000,000 to house and another 45,000 million just to feed. What does that do for security/economy? Do we need more? @Rajk999 saidIncredible that y'all can have complete meltdowns when you find out that a food stamp recipient bought a sugary soda, but when Pete Hegseth uses tax dollars to buy $15 million worth of ribeye steak you consider it business-as-usual.
