Only the ID of the person is private and Bitcoin transactions can be traced. I would like to know how someone can get away with Bitcoin before they get caught. People have been caught receiving Bitcoin and busted before.

Why not use a privacy coin like Z Cash instead? Wouldn't that be safer for the criminal?

All fiat currency is worthless. The only thing that gives any of it value is the demand for it. Same thing with Bitcoin. The difference is that Bitcoin inflation is limited unlike fiat money. There is a cap on the creation of more Bitcoin.

The only thing I am suspicious about is the creator of Bitcoin. We don't know the real ID of him/her and how much Bitcoin he or she holds. What if that person just sold a lot of it and caused the crash?
