Australia was going to do that but they backed down.

The House of Wettin is a dynasty of German counts, dukes, prince-electors (Kurfürsten) and kings that once ruled the area of today's German states of Saxony (953 years), the Saxon part of Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia for more than 800 years. Agnates of the House of Wettin have, at various times, ascended the thrones of Great Britain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Poland, Saxony, and Belgium; of these, only the British and Belgian lines retain their thrones today.

Every school-boy knows that Brits did not invent light-bulbs, the telephone
and automobiles. The song is about the great progress made during the
Victorian era!

Better still ... if Scots get independence let them
keep the Royals and make England a republic!

OK
But I don't think "Queen of Canada" is a title in the same way as Queen of Scotland is. There is no Canadian Royal family, there is no Canadian crown.
If the UK nations became republics would she still be Queen of Canada?
(Incidently there are still parts of the United Kingdom where she is not queen - {that's your next wiki challenge} ..)

Not quite the way I remember it. We had a referendum, but the wording was carefully chosen (by our then Prime Minister, a staunch monarchist) to ensure that it didn't get passed, although it was a close shave for him. There's much support for the present incumbent, but none for her successor, so the next referendum will pass no matter how loaded the wording, provided they wait for Charles to become king before the vote happens.

I reckon the UK will ditch the monarchy within 50 years.

Why are you being 'economical with the truth' 90% of the british based reports that I saw described them as british, this is the classic celtic whinge, stop crying like a little celtic baby and get over yourself.
It would be just as valid for us brits to complain that when celts win they are celts but when they screw up they want to hide their identity behind our british skirts.
