@wildgrass saidEisenhower lowered deficits. He was a republican.
Debt has only become a problem since Reagan. Republicans invariably have made it worse, while Democrat policies have consistently lowered deficits.
The tariff thing though? This will just make all goods astronomically expensive for almost everyone.
FDR raised them to fight a war of choice. He was a democrat. There is plenty of blame to go around. Stop being a partisan chump.
@Metal-Brain saidThat's true but Eisenhow was president 70 years ago.

In the past 45 years, without exception, every single Republican president raised the deficit level and every Democrat lowered it. I vote independent, for the people with a better track record of fiscal responsibility.
What's Trump's excuse, by the way, for doubling the deficit pre-covid? And then doubling it again in 2020 without a single conversation of how all those free checks would be paid for? Does he even have an excuse?
@wildgrass saidEconomists would study this for days before arriving at concurring opinion. Since we are laymen to such studies and professions,, I assume lacking in such studies......, and time to study it, I abstain. Could you tell us what you think,, with your reasoning?
Pay attention Joe. Trump's proposed replacing taxes with tariffs. All economists say this policy would be stupid.
What do you think?
Of course, I would be all for getting money from the chinee, et al while they get away with so much, but we must consider the ramifications.

@wildgrass saidBig questions all, but the fact remains that deficits have grown in the concepts which built this country. No matter who the presidents, each situation found us in need to have to do so. This very moment finds us with China and Russia tremendously building there arsenals. Then we have to tremendously build our military. New social programs, be they dem or reub, need increasing the deficit. The amounts that it has gone up is dicatated by the signs of the tines. Covid, for instance. It could have been obama, Trump, or Biden at the helm, together with 100s of legislators, it would have made no difference. Do you want me to sit here and single out the trillions of Biden? If it werent him, it may be someonoe else. that had to do it.

Truly, how can we lightweights on the economy weigh in on such huge decisions made by the government.
@wildgrass saidTariffs are moronic. But let's be fair -- it isnt just Trump who supports them. Biden imposed tariffs on clean energy cars from China. So Apparently both parties believe it is an important policy to prevent Americans from obtaining cheaper, green technology.

@quackquack saidBoth parties? A tariff here and there is one thing. The official policy position of Trump's campaign is to replace income tax with tariffs.

There's no way to argue that's what Biden wants too. Because it's dumb and suggests that theres no one in Trump's circle who knows anything about economics.

Noooo. It does matter. If a Democrat is president, deficits decrease. If a Republican is president, deficits increase.. the trend is unbreakable for the past 45 years.

@AverageJoe1 saidDoes trump have an excuse for doubling deficit spending during a time where we had a booming economy and no war?

The standard excuse - Congress - doesn't work because Republicans were in charge of that too. They just decided to spend like maniacs, hoping all you cultists wouldn't notice.

@wildgrass saidOh, so now you have a 45 year time limit. Way to cherry pick to mislead!

Maybe the trend will reverse. We haven't seen it yet. And there's no indication that it will.
@wildgrass saidYour partisan comparison is ridiculous. Republican presidents did not even exist before Lincoln. Hence your silly statute of limitation of fiscal irresponsibility.

No president lowered it in the past 45 years.
STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION!
@Metal-Brain saidNow you're going back even further. Interesting. If the same thing happens over and over for 45 straight years, I'll go ahead and assume it keeps happening until something changes. Is that fair?
