Mp3 players and other media players were increasing in popularity and variety when the ipod came out and even if apple disappeared they still would have.
Apple did a great job of developing a great user experience that helped them produce the most popular mp3 player line. However, they did not create the market for mp3 ...[text shortened]... ators in that arena, they just didn't build the arena or create the sport that they played.
