Rittenhouse trial…

It appears to be self defense based on the videos I have seen.

Apparently there is no law against carrying a rifle in a city. Rittenhouse was not the only person carrying a rifle in the videos I have seen. I don't think that is a wise thing to do, but apparently there is no law against it.

The trial isn't about what was wise, it is about if he broke any laws.
He ...[text shortened]... e's Batman days are over. I wouldn't worry about him doing it again. Deterrence probably successful.
so you suggest we should just roll over and let these blm/antifa/soros thugs take our country?

Well he's not going to be acquitted. If he was it wouldn't have taken 3 days of jury deliberations.

Possibly a hung jury 🤔

The judge has bent over backwards for the defense.

I find the possibility of a successful appeal of a conviction here low.
Following the law is bending over backwards! Tsk tsk

@wildgrass

Lets use your logic...

You say Rittenhouse shouldn't have been there...

OK...now we say the people he shot "shouldn't have been there"...

The only victim from Kenosha was the convicted child molester. Joseph Rosenbaum.
Glad he's dead.

So I guess the other two "shouldn't have been there"

Right? 🙄
Very good contenchess. Very good. This is an example of how libs cannot assimilate COMMON SENSE. Even Bill Maher yesterday said that Dems lack common sense.

I, Average joe1, have been pontificating common sense and logic for years to everyone here. I expect a call from Bill Maher today!!!

Yes, but that's true in a ton of scenarios. We still don't deputize citizens to go after the illegal offenders.

I'm a gun owner, but there has always been a requirement in our legal system that reasonable alternatives were attempted before lethal force. The castle doctrine applied to all public spaces would be a disaster.
But wildgrass, you suggest that these rabid mob people apply reasonable alternatives. A wasted post,?

Maybe nobody's ready for vigilantes with licenses to kill.

Appeal, I agree. If he's convicted and Schroeder lets it stand, it's not getting reversed on appeal.

However, I do think there's a substantial chance that Schroeder himself declares a mistrial or possibly even a directed acquittal in the event of a conviction.

"Vigilante" connotes revenge. Rittenhouse killed people who were attacking him. It's dishonest to use the term vigilante in this case.

No way.

If the judge did that the town will definitely burn.

So you grant the appeal at a later date when people have forgotten about this case. Save the town and Rittenhouse goes home.

The appeal won't be before Schroeder. It will be before an appellate court, which gives a lot of deference to judges on evidentiary and sufficiency of the evidence rulings. If convicted (which I still think is unlikely), Rittenhouse's best chance is Schroeder. If the jury's decision is a miscarriage of justice, it's the judge's job to correct it.

@sh76

I have never heard of a judge going against the jury in a murder conviction.
I don't see it happening here.
Do you know of any previous examples?
