I'm against it. Why should I subsidize some welfare Queen's trip to Wal-Mart? People who bought homes they couldn't afford in the first place are the ones that caused this economy to take a downturn. Now the Govt. wants to give these same a-hole $600 or more dollars to let them spend it on crap they don't need as usual. The only economy that will benefit because of this is the damn Chinese economy.

All crack houses have started working over-time in preparation for increased demand.

When our Conservative party was elected up here in the Great White North, they included a similar cash give-away plank as part of their "throw a different bone to every part of the voting population" campaign platform. It worked. Sort of. They managed not to alienate enough of their conservative base with their sometimes ideologically contradictory approach, and win over enough voters from other parties, to win the election, but only by enough of a margin to form a minority government.

I was in favour of some of their proposals, like the 1% GST reduction, which benefits everyone and stimulates the economy by slightly lowering taxes on goods and services. Not that we needed either, but I've always loathed the GST so any cut there I'm all in favour of. The cash give aways, on the other hand, seemed to me like a crass attempt at bribing the electorate.

Even though its an election year down south, with your economy, dollar, and Federal debt all pointing toward hard times ahead, perhaps the cash give away is a legitimate attempt to boost the economy and reverse current trends.

give a tax rebate, and a tax give away. Since they are giving some
money to people who do not pay taxes, for them they are not getting

to government coffers. Money that could have gone to the people
that are paying taxe ...[text shortened]... ey would have
to come up with another idea on how to soak those those who do
pay taxes.

I'm irritated by the handouts the "homeowners" are getting (that is, people who took out a loan and didn't pay it).

My family lost property for EXACTLY this kind of thing! Now everyone in my nuclear family is working and doing well and we're talking about getting together to buy property, and the government is keeping the prices artificially high...

Good luck shipping slimjim's job overseas...or mine for that matter. There are some jobs that don't work like that. For example, education, military, produce transport within the US.

Virtual Classrooms do not allow for a few minutes per day per student of one-on-one interaction. There is no human to human interaction. This cannot be duplicated virtually.

Blackwater costs twice as much as our military personell do and they have nothing like our military's logistics and heavy weapons capability. You must be joking. Their big claim to fame was designing the concept behind the Army's new mine-resistant trucks.

Mexican drivers cost gas as they go from the US to Mexico. Gas is expensive these days if you hadn't noticed.

virtual class room, some subjects require little to no interaction, many universities now offer courses online. Its already happening

Blackwater may cost more now, but when (if) action is over, so is the contract. Also if they are hurt, there is no govt. liability, thus reducing the need for VA hospitals (big savings). Many companies now outsource functions that are not needed day to day, but only occasionaly. Its already happening.

The cost for diesel to get here might be high, but that is a one time outlay, once drivers get here, they will just work and drive in the USA, they also do not have the same restrictions and laws we do, they drive under their mexican liscence, this is a reality, and will be starting soon due to nafta.

again, try and be a little more informed before you post.

Universities. OK.

I'm talking about education for minors.

Re: the military stuff, you're talking science fiction at this point. Lots of speculation. Anyway...Blackwater up until now has been an American company. They're declaring themselves international only now.

Re: drivers, foreign driver is different from being a foreign trucker in the way I meant. So some truck owner hires a foreigner to drive his truck. So what? That's what we agreed upon in NAFTA, because we believe free and open trade is healthy. The truck and the owner however are here.

Since when is Mexico overseas anyway? And since when are Mexican drivers driving American trucks in the USA an example of a job shipped out of the country? The job stays right here. It's just some Mexican working hard who moves back and forth, and that's what we agreed was ok.

the problem is that mexican trucks will be allowed to haul frieght in the US, not Mexicans driving US trucks. I have mixed feelings with immigrant workers here illegaly. I understand that they are trying to make a better life for themselves, but they are driving down the average wages.

Maybe American truckers should go into business hiring Mexicans.

Wait, illegals? No; illegals are not NAFTA beneficiaries are they?

Typical answer from a lib a-hole. They didn't earn anything. They don't pay taxes. They are getting money from people like me who pay taxes. How big is my house? Which one? They are both payed for along with my 5 tractor trailers. I probably spend more in a year in diesel than your house is worth. I'm sure you are waiting in anticipation for your 300.00 check. You Lib's love to spend other peoples money.

Wrong-O-Dr-O.
You obviously jump from bed to bed with the frequency of a cheap CB radio.
Only those with incomes of $90k/yr. or lower will get the rebate. And even those who paid No taxes will get the rebate.
