Oh, certainly taxes. It all has to be funded.
And it can be done by local tax, income tax, business tax, trade tax, etc.

But the basis is the same: everyone puts in the pot and everyone benefits, albeit in various manners (if your house never burns down, you don’t need a fire brigade).

Housing is a basic human right. How can a functional society tolerate families not having a home.

NOTHING IS FREE.
It’s free at the point of delivery. Everyone pays their fare share.
And you can still save up your pennies to buy your speedboat. You just don’t have to pay for healthcare when you’re sick or your kids college. That’s paid for, because everyone’s already paid into the pot.

Like the army. Like the police. Like politicians. It’s the same system, but expanded.

You paid your taxes and that’s all arranged.
