An announcement by the Trump Administration that the United States would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany has shaken America’s European allies, but it may just be the beginning of a much wider withdrawal.

...when asked by reporters Saturday about the move, President Donald Trump said that even more troop withdrawals could follow, representing a dramatic scale-back of the U.S. commitment to European security.

“We’re going to cut way down,” Trump said in Florida. “And we’re cutting a lot further than 5,000.”

Trump’s move came amid long-simmering tensions between the U.S. and its longtime European allies, particularly over the war in Iran. Trump has expressed anger at fellow NATO members after they refused to provide aid to the U.S. and Israel’s war.

When Europe declined to send warships to help open the Strait of Hormuz, he called NATO “useless” and “cowards,” and has since been seemingly trying to punish his European allies. Internal Pentagon documents found that the U.S. was considering a review of U.S. diplomatic support for European countries’ “imperial possessions,” such as the Falkland Islands, and was floating the idea of suspending Spain from NATO.

I speculated before that U.S. withdrawal could start a domino effect impacting the allegiance of other NATO allies.

Less than a month ago, NATO allies agreed to start spending 5 percent of their GDP to fund NATO, which went up from 2 percent. Having to spend more money on an alliance that no longer has one of the 3 superpowers also contributing may make other members think twice.

Add to this that Hungary and Turkey have friendly relations with Putin, they could be influenced by Russia to also leave.

But we're a long way from full U.S. withdrawal.

Did you use the word influence in your post!????!?!?!!?!!?!?!?!?!?
Why do you not use it in the first sentence, and in the 2nd, both of which make it obvious, indeed, who it was that got the attention of these losers in NATO.
Trump. Riiiiiiiigggghht.
Do y'all still not get the picture? Catch the train. Every nation in the world defers to your presdident, whom you are adamant to get rid of.
A man from Mars would wonder what is wrong with you people. I, of course, would be the one to 'show him around'!!!!!!

I figure the markets to open higher tomorrow, figuring how close we are to the obvious win on the Iran thingy. Yes, it is only a thingy now.
I have forgiven Sonhouse for convincing me the market was crashing a year or so ago, causing me to SELL everything!!!! But, thanks for Trump, I have gotten it all back since I got back in. NOW it will take off. Funhouse, your take???

You are being mislead. Trump needs all the troops he can get for a ground war in Iran, but he does not want to admit he is planning something so unpopular in the US. Look at the poll numbers of how many Americans support a ground war. About 14%

Iran is a big country. He does not have enough soldiers for it. Of course he is pulling troops out of Europe. Don't buy into it is a symbolic thing because Trump is upset with Germany. Notice the news media only tells you they are being removed. They will not tell you where they are going from there.

About 86% oppose a ground war. Of course they will not tell you they are going to the middle east for a ground invasion of Iran. It is extremely unpopular and people are already fuming from the higher fuel prices. So you have to find out after it is too late to speak out against it.

If Trump were to take the USA out of NATO, the first Democrat president would re-instate America's full membership.

Some people have never forgotten how NATO came to America's immediate and long-term aid (20 yrs in Afghanistan) after 9/11.

Can someone remind me why we need troops stationed in Germany in 2026?

* Airforce bases to maintain global acces (has shown to be very useful in both Iraq wars, the war in Lybia and the war in Afghanistan

* Military hospital in Landstuhl (proben valuable in the same wars)

You fellers talk about yesterday. Prob is, you don't mention Jimmy Carter giving away the canal,.... all the dem bad stuff. So it was all so great as the USA started losing prominence. Man, Obama capped that when bowed to an Arab. Jesus.
Yeah, talk about yesterday. New sheriff now, though. Pick an administration..

We don't know when that will be.

Right now Republicans have all the momentum and power, especially with recent changes to the Voting Rights Act and SAVE being passed. If a Republican like Vance is elected, it could be at least another decade or more.

In the event of a NATO operation, the U.S. won't have to first fly troops, tanks, etc., across the Atlantic.

Who would you like to have for president in 2028??

Operation in Central Europe?

Are we considering invading Poland or something?

Use your head.

U.S. troops are stationed in Europe if they ever need to be mobilized immediately against Russia or some other enemy, instead of first flying across the Atlantic.

I think the best man for Democrats is Hakeem Jeffries.

You're not ready for that.
