@Duchess64
When we allow unrestrained for-profit war industry, we will get perpetual conflicts and wars.
When we allow unrestrained for-profit health-care industry, we will get perpetual sickness and false promises of cures just-around-the-corner.
"But the scale of the anti-China reaction is disproportionate to the
reality of the courageous contributions made by Chinese scientists
to our global understanding of this pandemic. It was Chinese
scientists who first described the human threat of this new disease
on 24 January. It was Chinese scientists who first documented
person-to-person transmission. It was Chinese scientists who first
sequenced the genome of the virus. It was Chinese scientists who
called attention to the importance of scaling up access to personal
protective equipment, testing and quarantine. It was Chinese
scientists who warned of the threat of a pandemic.
I put these things into a computer -- looking for what sort of pattern between these great scientific discoveries have, trying to understand how the Chinese got all that.
The super advanced computer crunched the numbers and spit this mysterious conclusion back at me:
COVID-19 IS CHINA FLU
I think it's trying to say that these initial scientific contributions occurred because the flu is Chinese in origin, and that the Chinese were able to make these breakthroughs because they were the first on the scene, so to speak.
But the computer is more advanced than I and I cannot claim to be perfectly interpreting it.
Regardless, good find.

@shippingtest saidIf I may suggest:
West's own covid-19 failures?
No, there is no failures in west,
China failed . We Chinese are scared of the covid-19. It is not a big deal, take easy and do not treat it in china way.
Rather than looking for someone to blame for this virus, would it not be more fruitful to look for a cure?

@mchill saidAgreed.

The whole COVID-19 blame thing is nonsense. Do we blame governments for failing to protect their citizens from earthquakes?
Far better for the politicians, conspiracy theorists and alarmist media to focus their minds on reducing the damage being done by this disease. Mistakes will inevitably be made. Let's try not to repeat those mistakes, and also try not to make new ones.

@kewpie saidBack when the first SARS type viruses were popping off, we told China to close their wet markets.
Agreed.

They said they would, but they didn't, and the persistent eating of bats and other Bush meat resulted in this virus and its jump to humans.
... And while this is a bit out there, I'll also mention that there are still those who believe it's from a laboratory.

@kewpie saidGovernments and scientists cannot prevent the spread of earthquakes.
Agreed.

@philokalia saidYes. But is has been completely debunked.

My main problem with this anti-Chinese malarkey over covid-19, is that it detracts from what is a massive and very real problem in China: human rights.
If people keep conspiracy theories alive and kicking, it’s very easy for the Chinese to say: “You’re anti-Chinese.” And just wave away real critisism.

@shavixmir saidAlong with what a bully China is, like to Hong Kong and Tawain. China threatens to close it's markets to any country that recognizes Taiwan as a sovereign nation. Not much different from Trump threatening nations who didn't side with him on Israel.
Yes. But is has been completely debunked.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI don’t see a wave of anti China feeling and I would be surprised if what “America” thinks about China’s economy has anything to do with people’s attitudes about mask wearing.
I think the Chinese government are fundamentally responsible for COVID-19, I don’t feel anti Chinese in any way whatsoever and I don’t mind wearing a mask to help prevent spread of the virus.
@shavixmir saidExcellent observation.

It is interesting isn’t it, that we see duchess64 start thread after thread after thread citing The [Word] Guardian’s opinion on anti China feelings, but NEVER a thread about the real problem in China...human rights.
