First of all, I was the one who just explained to you that tariffs incentivize domestic growth. You just learned that about two posts ago.

Secondly, the U.S. is the largest importer in the world. Increasing costs of imports through tariffs will naturally lead to higher costs for American consumers.

You need to keep one thing in mind: tariffs *can* promote domestic ...[text shortened]... magic. There must be a plan. You can't just universally apply tariffs and hope something happens.
Please, what I just learned from you!
No one said anything about universally applying tariffs.
You want to complain, so do so, you don't need me for that.

Wrong. Trump did. He wants tariffs on all imports: 60 percent tariffs from China, 20 percent on all other imports.

You defend Trump's tariffs yet don't even know that?

Possibly. Americans will still have to deal with higher costs of products.

It is true that initially this will be a problem but eventually more and more American companies will be created and eventually this will lower prices

Tariffs are better in the long run

Raising the cost of imports would create less business because they are more expensive to run.

Tariffs would only help existing American businesses, not create new ones. Tariffs should be used as a temporary and targeted measure to fix an issue.

Depends how they're used. Regardless, it would take many years before the benefits of tariffs start to show; long after Trump or Kamala's term ends.

Tell me who it is paying for those tariffs?
You mentioned a few economy talking points but what about Trump's plan to arrest 15 million people and put them in concentration camps prior to deporting or putting 15 thousand children in cages this time? Or pulling out of NATO or Trump saying 'Russia, you can do what ever the HELL you want' unquote.
Or firing 40,0 ...[text shortened]... ivals and use our military to quell peaceful protests.
All that going to make American great again?
@sonhouse I have heard that some american companies are halting any new moves to mexico because of the tariffs Trump proposes. That is a win for the American people.

My company makes medical devices. My plant used to be the only manufacturer and supplied our products all over the world. We now have plants in Europe , China and within the last 4 years 3 plants in Mexico. We here in the NY plant are told not to worry, we still supply the North American continent. We used to supply the world. They recently asked me to go to Mexico to validate a new product because the engineers in the 3 mexico plants are too busy. They are busy with new products that I should be validating and running here in NY.

If tariffs cause a short term strain on me, I am willing to bear it for the sake of my grandchildren,

My company made pneumotachographs invented by a German engineer and I worked as a tech to help develop it. That was my only experience with medical instruments.
And they were produced here in the US.
But the point is if you buy a Japanese car and LOT of people will buy those cars they WILL have to pay 20% more. And not just cars, but bananas, and other fruit and food delivered to the US. If you want papayas you will not find many grown here in the US because we don't have the right climate, just one example of stuff ONLY available outside the US.
It is US who pay the tariff, the foreign companies don't get punished, WE do.

It seems that our leaders have made it tough to manufacture things in the US. I think it started back with Bush. I don't have the answer but my company could have built those 3 new Mexican plants here, along with the jobs here.
