@eladar saidYou cannot force terrorists into anything other than moving their base of operation. By definition they do not make themselves available to force. Al Qaeda left Afghanistan but did not disappear and there is a chance they will come back. The overwhelming force used on Iraq created Isis.
Terrorists honor strength. If you force them into submission, they do not act out. Where did Lybian terrorism go? It stopped with American bombs.
Trump is a physical and political coward who loves to bully the weak and cow-tow to the strong. He used his base to attack the capitol and then claimed he did no such thing.
This is the culmination of the US decision to leave Afghanistan and Afghanistan’s own eternal asymmetric war with itself.
@no1marauder said“ [The Biden administration] couldn’t stop the process. They wanted to, but it was very tough to stop the process.” ”
I don't believe that (Biden had a choice and made the correct one) but Donald Trump sure did a month ago:
"I started the process,” Trump said at a rally in Ohio in late June, his first since losing the presidency. “All the troops are coming back home. They couldn’t stop the process. 21 years is enough. Don’t we think? 21 years. [The Biden administration] couldn’ ...[text shortened]... as very tough to stop the process.”

LOL
@eladar saidWhere did the Taliban go? Oh that's right, they're still here after 20 years of US occupation (at one point we had over 100,000 troops on the ground) and over a decade of Russian intervention before that.

I'll repeat it again: there was nothing in the Trump deal with the Taliban that was enforceable in any way except to just change course and stay there indefinitely. Once we left, the only outcome was a terrorist takeover, and that's been known by US officials for over a decade. Bush, Obama and Trump didn't want the bad poll numbers.
@mott-the-hoople saidGetting out, giving up, was the right move. It's been long enough and of course it was going to be messy. That's why Trump set the timeline for after the election.

@mott-the-hoople saidNo. Trump was. Maybe re-read my post.

@wildgrass saidno one disagrees that getting out was the right decision. Abandoning US citizens and weapons is the problem.

But you know that.

With Biden as President they have free terror of the country.
With Trump as President they would be required to live peacefully with other regions of Afghanistan.
I think that is quite a difference. I prefer the Trump scenerio.
@wildgrass saidthere are thousands of American there now without a way out, abandoned by biden. their very life is in danger. that is the difference between Trump and biden!

In 2020, the Taliban expanded their campaign to the highest levels of violence since the beginning of the occupation. Trump didn't and couldn't "require them to live peacefully"; in fact, he released Taliban prisoners and then reduced US troop strength.
Do you think that if you keep repeating your fairy tale lie that eventually someone will believe it?
@no1marauder saidPerhaps you could provide the link with all the Taliban violence during Trump's presidency.
