Well I dont have a clue. What I can say is that Bidens methods were encouraging illegal immigration by Columbians, who came accross the Mexican border, then taking some of these illegals and flying them back home in comfort and style. This method does not get to the root of the problem.

I say Trumps method is better despite what the Columbian govt thinks or how they react.
I don't think the theatrics are at all useful. People see through it. So far what we've seen is an administration that desperately wants to show us they're deporting people, while the numbers aren't really changed.
We will see. 2024 deportations were 280,000. Theater aside, the numbers will show if they're doing anything.

My guess is that Trumps people knew that Colombia would react this way after dishonoring the original agreement, and they prepared the sanction threat ahead of time. They're not interested in efficient deportations, only the storylines that develop. It's better to threaten a trade war than increase deportations.
