Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Pay no attention to the reality of Luigi's back pain.

Insurance just reflects costs. Healthcare charges in the US have risen faster than any other commodity for many years: homes, college educations, gas, groceries. 😆

Why?

Short Answer: "Because healthcare in the US is for-profit, and the government has passed laws that insulate doctors, clinics, and pharmaceutical companies from competition (qv. cartel). With privat ...[text shortened]... l resistance to it."

In such a system, prices can rise LITERALLY without bound. And so they do. 😆
Consider what it does for you....then it makes more sense to pay whatever it takes. I cannot imagine having no health insuramce, and I also cannot imagine asking you to pay for my insurance. I pay say $300/month, all of us do, and 'we' have a large savings account to cover us all. You do like socialism, don't you?

UnitedHealth Group, the largest US healthcare insurance company, has these lovely sentiments to share on behalf of their beloved bygone billionaire:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/13/opinion/united-health-care-brian-thompson-luigi-mangione.html

Excerpts: [quote]We greatly appreciate the enormous outpouring of support for Brian, who ran our health insurance business, ...[text shortened]... to make sense of it? Really, pigs? And meanwhile, $22 billion dollars in profits last year alone!

I'd quit too.

Billionaires better fork out for private armies. The coming dystopia will not be safe for them.

This is a little longer than I like; however, it is good.

The problem in America is not merely that health care insurance for patients is run for profit (leaving many people without coverage, due to high individual costs), but further that health care providers are also run for profit (bankrupting many patients who need care). This has created a completely skewed system whereby health care has taken a back seat to profit mongering and cost-optimization. This has rendered so-called health care in America content-neutral--so far from actually providing health care, the system might as well be marketing Christmas tree decorations.

In any civilised country, the health care system provides health care first, and costs are collectivised and subsidised as necessary. Health care should be collectivised for the same reason as sewerage and garbage collection: everyone suffers if it is managed for profit and on individual subscription.

There is no evidence that migrants are taking out disproportionately more resources than they are putting in. As several people have already pointed out, migrants are paying wage-earned taxes into the system. They aren't the reason social systems are nearing breaking point. The reason is that the top 1% of the wealthy control something like 50% of the wealth. If the wealthy paid a fair share of tax (Trump was obnoxiously smug about having paid only 750 dollars in tax, total, over 15 years), then the cost of national health care could be financed easily.

Illegals are probably not drawing social benefits anyway, for fear of being detected.
