Don't waste your time going to vote in the US elections.
According to the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3727606.stm) the candidate with the shortest surname will win i.e. Bush.
Apparently, Reagan was the only Republican candidate since Nixon to have a two syllable surname, Clinton and Carter are the only presidents since WWII to beat candidates with a shorter surname than themselves.
A while ago I heard a report that candidates from southern US states are far more likely to be elected than from other states, although I can't find a reference to it right now.
A couple of days ago I heard a report that if the Washington Redskins win their last game of the season, then the incumbent president will win. Again, apparently the last 15 or so elections have followed this pattern.
So, in summary, don't waste your time going out to vote ๐

A few more:

Originally posted by VargEven if u do vote, they'll just change it to Bush anyway. I can't believe the Florida fiasco hasn't led to any tightening of rules/regulations. It seems that things have gotten worse with electronic voting machines installed by one of the Bush's crony companies. No paper trail = Bush victory, simple as that.

Originally posted by AThousandYoungWasn't Gore taller than Bush? Oh yeah, Gore actually won that election.
You got it all wrong. It's all about height. Since the advent of television, only one President beat out a taller man for the popular vote: 5'9 Jimmy Carter beat 6'2 Gerald Ford.
The last election is another situation where the shorter man won, but not by popular vote!
Originally posted by RagnorakI'm sure it would have but after Sept 11th, democrats could not take up "partisan" issues. Then when the Republicans won both the House of Reps and the Senate, nobody was going to care about election reform, except where it involved Texas.

Here are a few recent Vice-Presidents - Cheney, Gore, Quayle, Bush, Ford, Rockefeller and Agnew and one potential - Edwards.
Does my alphabet theory still hold?
Originally posted by steerpikeActually no. Names are NOT listed on the ballot alphabetically in the United States; in most states the party that got the most votes for the highest office in the last election is listed first, the second highest is listed second, etc. In primary elections, the order of the candidates is usually decided by a random drawing. So the "lazy voter" voting alphabetically theory doesn't hold up at least in the US.
