I agree and since NO country I know of "supports its own people to the best of their ability", nuclear weapons should be abolished.

Anyone who feels we need more weapons capable of destruction on such a large scale isn't someone I will trust.

"Power attracts the corruptible and absolute power attracts the absolutely corruptible."
However, I would agree with the bit about not needing more WMDs.
Originally posted by no1marauderYes, I agree with your sentiment that nuclear weapons should be abolished, however, there is severe problem with that effort. No country wants to relinquish a possible advantage over others, and if one nation does eliminate all of their nukes, then they could possibly be in serious danger of invasion.

Nobody could stop Bush from entering Iraq. How can the world expect Bush to behave once he gets those weapons in space ? .. It's 5 more years of uncertainty for world peace. It's ironical how sharply contrasting is the nature of successive Prezs. Clinton almost created history by solving the middle-east crisis. While Dubya has just fomented trouble with his war-mongering ways.

Originally posted by steerpikeYou make it sound as if the United States is some terrorist country just waiting for the opportunity to attack an innocent nation that has done nothing wrong. The fact of the matter is, the U.S. has never attacked a nation without a cause, and granted, sometimes that cause may be a little misguided, but nevertheless, they still attempt to make every cause a noble one. As for your wild theory about the U.S. threatening to use nukes against conventially armed opponents, I almost choke with laughter as I attempt to find data to back up your claim. Also, the two nuclear weapons that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW2 were set off before the United States had data on the long term effects of the bombs. I doubt the U.S. would have used the weapons if they knew what they know now.

As for my wild claim about the U.S. threatening to use nukes against conventially armed opponents not being backed up, you did not look very far. The United States has already used nuclear weapons on a converntionally armed power, and has threatened nuclear strike agaisnt several countries- the last on Iraq on Jan 2003.

Edit: Actually, Robert Oppenheimer did say this as he saw the mushroom cloud, but he recalled it from the Baghavad Gita.

I am afraid you were the one who made that connection when I provided some history about your countries activities.
