@averagejoe1 saidAll of a sudden? It's been part of the US since 1898 and its People have been citizens of our country since 1917.
you have the cart ahead of the horse. The issue is about whether PR all of a sudden is supposed to be a state. Funny that that is coinciding with the exact time that the Democrats took office. I sure wonder what that’s about🤔🤔
The Democrats are willy-nilly just saying that Puerto Rico should have a voice in the government. But they don’t say why. Next they will say th ...[text shortened]... ht to medical care, and a right to college tuition. Democrats have no idea what the word right means
@no1marauder saidDo you REALLY want to get intothe weeds.???

O K. 1898. What happened this year to make it the subject of the month on RHP? Hmmmmmm letme think..
@no1marauder saidHey, your democrats *own* everything. Let them get rid of filibustering. Not my fault. Congresses have allowed it for centuries.
That will be when: the Republicans successfully filibuster it.

123 years later its People, 3 million citizens of our country, have no voting representatives in Congress nor can they vote in the Presidential election.
Why? Is it because right wingers decided recently that they might vote in ways you don't like? Or is it simple racist bigotry?
If it isn't one of those reasons, how come none of you can give a reason?
@earl-of-trumps saidThey should get rid of it; Moscow Mitch has used it in a way it was never intended i.e. to impose an extra majority requirement on every bit of legislation. In my view, this is unconstitutional; the Framers specifically made only a majority vote necessary except in a few cases.

@no1marauder saidLolling in the sun for 123 years, and in June, 2021, the Dems are up in arms!!!! Uhhh, what changed to make this so necessary? They have always been in same situation (no vote), what is up that I m missing? And PLEASE dont tell me that new agencies will have to be established to handle PR!!! I dont think we can afford it, we have entitlements going out every day., etc.

What is next in your quest, to transform America??? You are adding STATES!?!???!?!?!???!?!?????!?!?!??!? Jesus. Next you will be forgiving debts incurred by citizens.
@no1marauder saidSo, a smart senator, Joe Manchins is WRONG about the importance of the filibuster , and you are right about it. Interesting. Read his words, then you will know the republican opinion on it. I wonder if he will come over to the Republican side.

That is exactly what the Democratic and Republican platforms set as a prerequisite for PR statehood. Now that the People of Puerto Rico have spoken, could you please give me a reason (none of you have done so) why their wish for Statehood shouldn't be granted?
Stop dodging.
The United States has added 37 States in its history and the provision to do so is part of the Constitution. It's hardly some new, novel and shocking idea.
@averagejoe1 saidYes he's wrong and his history sucks.

@averagejoe1 saidGuess who wanted to kill the filibuster in 2018?

"TALLAHASSEE — A divide has formed among Democrats over an issue of high sensitivity in New York and Florida: Puerto Rico statehood.
Democratic Rep. Darren Soto, Florida’s first congressman of Puerto Rican descent, is accusing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of reversing his stance on statehood for the island out of fear of political fallout in New York. This comes as liberal firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.) is pressing her own measure that urges “self-determination” for Puerto Rico.
Schumer is “trying to appease politics at home,” said Soto, who last week reintroduced a House proposal, H.R. 1522 (117), for Puerto Rico statehood. “I'm just ready to fight. I'm not frustrated."

Democrats will vote for statehood for Puerto Rico in overwhelming numbers in Congress; Republicans will vote against it in overwhelming numbers.
I still haven't heard an actual reason from you or the other right wingers for opposing it; do you have any?
@no1marauder saidOK.. So I think that you are saying that we should do the Statehood thing, because they 'voted for it'?? Of course they did,.... If you lived there and saw all the free stuff in the USA, you would too. If I were a hanger-on, I would, too. There would be LOT of benefits to be a State of the USA.

So , we deduce that you think there should be statehood because they voted for it. If the voters of Mississippi voted for (fill in the blank_________), do you think it should be granted to them.? You reason like a liberal. "They voted for it".
Hey, don't shoot me, my job here is to translate the posts of libs.
@no1marauder saidWhy, you hypocrite ....just 3 days ago you chided me, saying politicians have a right to change their minds!!! Oh, Marauder, what will we do with you. So many confused issues, wet beds, so little time.

@no1marauder saidYOUR reason is , because they voted for it. Is there some requirement, here or on the floor of Congress, that we HAVE to give a 'reason ' why to vote No for statehood?.
Baloney.

If a Dem stood up in Congress and proffered a bill to stop sales of ice cream, and a Repub congressman voted no on the bill, does the speaker require each of the members of congress to say WHY he voted that way. If Maruader asked AJOE out in the hallway why I voted NO, I would say, as to the statehood matter, 'why now', or 'what is the urgency......Marauder, is there something going on that I don't know about? Has the governor of PR got something on Biden, or his horrible son?" " I need more information". But even after more into, I can't think of some legitimate 2021 change that all of a sudden, yes.....all of a sudden,......to rush them in.....and hurry, because we need their votes in 2022.
Aren't you getting tired of beating this horse. PR is just fine, do you have an uncle living there or something?? Very suspicious.
