@Great-King-Rat saidWe, prob the USA, will develop a way to harness energy from the sun. And it will be free from the sky, but I hate to tell you libs, users of the energy produced by the sun will have to pay for it. Capitalism, you know. The investor will make money as you bitch about that, as you enjoy sun-harnessed energy since there is no oil!!!
I was reading about oil reserves and came across estimates of oil effectively running out in maximum 57 years. Obviously, there will still be oil, but it will be incredibly difficult, expensive and terrible for the environment to get.
Further guesstimates however, state that with new technology, we might have oil for another 100 years instead of 57.
Let’s be supe ...[text shortened]... e comes, or - since we’ll all be dead by then, ironically in time turning into oil - do we not care?
As my grandaddy says, you don't have to buy the investors' energy.
@wildgrass saidOMG. We have one here who is against AI, from which we will all profit greatly.Unbelievable.
AI is eating the fresh water and spitting out garbage.
When the oil runs out, we will enter the "grey goo hypothesis" scenario.

@Nemesis saidBack already?
Allow me to educate you people.
The world hasn't even scratched the surface when it comes to oil and essential critical resources.
Some oil is held back by lack of development or the government, like in Canada for example.
Other oil is held back by price and other oil is held back by environmental concerns or protest.
The world is covered by water at around 70 perce ...[text shortened]... ocean, etc.
I'll stop before I get ranting and raving about it.
You people have been educated.
@Suzianne saidYou moron. China already did something about it.
But current foolish governments won't spend a dime doing anything about it until then.
In the meantime, humanity will go feral and kill each other off.
Same if the fresh water runs out.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-09-01/solar-surpasses-coal-as-china-s-top-source-of-power-capacity
As fossil fuels get more expensive solar will increase. It has already happened in China. And as for fresh water, I live in Michigan. Look at it on a map sometime.
Man became as intelligent as we are because we kill each other. That brutal competition required us to get smarter to compete. We became smarter because of our violence to each other, not despite it.
@AverageJoe1 saidOMG. When people lose their jobs to AI are you going to pay for their unemployment checks? You are using to word "all" too loosely.
OMG. We have one here who is against AI, from which we will all profit greatly.Unbelievable.
@Metal-Brain saidPeople said such things about many of our advancing modern inventions, like the car overtaking the horse. I aint worried one bit about it. It may get losers off of their asses to get on the train.

@Soothfast saidI see huge solar panel fields in China, which utterly ruin the environment. Even in my tiny country, big fields are covered in panels, which has a huge impact on the animals that live there.
The thing is, the time of reckoning will come well before the oil in the ground "runs out." New sources of oil are harder to get at, poorer in quality, and therefore will be much more expensive on the consumer end. Meanwhile renewable energy sources are getting more efficient, cheaper, and can be stored at scale in batteries.
Oil is the past, not the future. Coal is even ...[text shortened]... ee the US fracturing into at least two pieces within a generation or two, if not two years from now.
Not to mention, making these panels also comes at a cost.

Bit too late for that.
@Rajk999 saidThe world will progress beyond oil not because of conservatives who are forever stuck in the 1950s, but because of smart, leftwing people who understand that can’t continue the same way forever.
Rubbish. The world progresses in spite of people like you and not because of.
@Great-King-Rat saidLeft wing people are stupid dunces. Proof of that is the high % of them who believe that socialism or democratic socialism is a viable alternative to the version of capitalism that exists across to western world. With regard to the environment, you cannot just stop oil or fossil fuels. Neither can you pump extreme amounts in R&D. The world will gradually slow down the use of fossil fuels and viable replacements will gradually come into use. Its a slow process. Cows farting cannot destroy the environment and all predictions in the last 50 years of impending doom are nonsense. The world is better off without left-wing, blue haired, social media failures.

@AverageJoe1 saidYou can't have a debate without picking a side, but it doesn't always need to be a war.
OMG. We have one here who is against AI, from which we will all profit greatly.Unbelievable.
I'm not against AI. I'm in favor of regulations to control it. Otherwise, we will run into an unmitigated disaster letting the trillionaires decide everything for us. They don't care about the neighborhoods destroyed by adding a data center. They don't care if children never learn to think.
Regulate AI. Don't let it hack into critical infrastructure. Protect the environment. Keep it away from kids in schools because they must learn to think for themselves.
The people who are creating the AI are asking to take over control of government. Should we let that happen, because profits? But the politicians are standing still, probably because they're too dumb to understand what they're doing.
@wildgrass saidRegs will be a given, we got you there.

You say on one hand that you are OK with data centers, and then you say you do not want them to be in 'neighborhoods'. So you are OK with them, you just want them to be built where we can get along with them.? Cool.
@AverageJoe1 saidI think we should stop building them. We have enough. They're driving up the price of electricity and polluting all the clean water. Until these companies can show us they can build them to NOT do those things, all construction should halt.
Regs will be a given, we got you there.
