Are you saying that fica taxes alone bring in enough to cover Medicare?
It did until around five years ago. However, now they are not taking in enough and are dipping into the 2.6 trillion left in the trust-fund. They've been balancing the budget with trust-fund money since Regan with iou's. That's where most of our national debt is owed too. OURSELVES! Our ...[text shortened]... lion, an increase of $26.8 billion above fiscal year 2023.[/b]
That's almost a trillion every year.
This math does not add up.

Again, I agree with you on defense. It's only part of the equation. There's plenty of space to cut Medicare spending by forcing hospitals to control coat and eliminating unnecessary/harmful procedures that cost taxpayers dearly. The example I often bring up is back surgery. Just this one procedure is done 200,000 times per year on people who don't need it, costing taxpayers $2billion.

Probably the reason for the over prescribing of this surgery and many many others is financial. Docs get paid for doing stuff. But any government-initiated restrictions get messaged as "death panels" by the right.

I agree 100%. For profit medical care is where much of the fraud and abuse is occurring also. Crooked doctors and hospitals. Billions every year they steal. They have been cracking down a lot the last few years; and, many doctors have gone to prison over this. However, it's a constant thing unfortunately.

In denial of course!
On March 19, 2021, Joe Biden had a 53.3% approval rating v. 42.7% disapproval according to Real Clear Politics aggregate of polls. https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/joe-biden/approval-rating

By contrast, Trump has slumped into negative territory already; 47.9% approve and 48.8% disapprove (a week ago he was slightly in a positive range). https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/approval-rating

It's a bit more complicated. The back surgery examples are all cases where the doctor recommends based on an indication of a problem, usually pain, the patient consents, and the expenses are justified.

Dental procedures are another great example. An X-ray shows a spot, the dentist recommends drilling over 'wait and see'. Both things would be ok, but docs choose the more lucrative option.

So, not technically fraud. Medicare reform would need to prohibit these procedures, which puts a bad taste in many mouths.

Single payer would fix a lot.

LMAO!

You're the one who linked to an article about polls when you thought it was good news for Trump.

Of course, when it is shown the polls aren't good for him, right wingers insist all polls are worthless.

You guys really don't have any consistent principles, do you?

No they haven't.
Saying that would be political suicide.
So that is why they just announced the firing of SEVEN THOUSAND SS workers AND closing offices AND no longer accepting phone calls to adjudicate disputes?
Does the word PRIVATIZE mean something to you?
I can only assume you don't care if you get SS when you turn 80 or whatever the limit is when you get to the age to get it.
Myself, I have done my 7% SS tax for SIXTY years now, that means I have put into the system some THREE TIMES my yearly salary now and am vested in the SS system and if they cut me off we will literally be kicked out of our home, which now happens to be a mobile home which we paid for and a lean attached to it while we grovel in the mud outside.
But I am quite sure you figure we deserve it for being poor or some such rot.
So I just got hired by a large company to try to counter the coming death of SS.
But at 83, don't know how long I can keep that up, but of course you could care less about the plight of actual veterans like us.
And now Trump and President Musk is in fact attacking and firing thousands of veterans at the VA offices as we speak in a bid to attract the support of veterans.
Are you ok with that?
I bet you don't give a rats ass HOW it goes, kill VA, no big deal, right?

All those years the both of us spent in the military down the drain, ok with you?

But the cuts to SS are political hack jobs, the cost of administering SS is ONE PERCENT of the budget but they keep spouting fraud and abuse.
President Musk and Vice President Trump is tearing down the government with NO plans to build it back up again, leaving the country in ruins. THAT is the goal. FUUK American citizens, ESPECIALLY those who voted against us.
But even REPUBLICANS in now small numbers are seeing the carnage unfolding right before our very eyes, like the ongoing attacks on judges who rule against Trump,
Trump says we will abide by their rulings, but when they rule against me, I will KILL them. So we abide by their rule........

Most of the fraud and waste appears to be the billions the government gives to Musk every year.

Let's cut that.
Small thinker,,,,,,many corps that you like get the same money. Cuts would be a blanket decision, which means their money would be cut too.? Downer. No more cat food for kitty.
You should think things through, like Trump does. And like Sonhouse does. 🤔
