I'm no longer going to keep responding to your accusations of my "Marxism".

What Columbus did should be taught, but he should not be honored with a holiday.

IF you want to teach children how capitalism works in practice fine but you'd quickly have to give up on telling them fairy tales like our society's wealthy "work harder" than their working and middle class parents.
You can teach children what you like about different economic systems, because when they become of age they will see exactly where all the immigrants are risking their lives to get out of, and get into the Capitalist USA, Canada and much of Europe. You cannot fool them for long.

Their options are few given the domination of multinationals backed by the world's strongest military powers.

But even at that, no capitalism in any of the countries you mention looks anything like the capitalism Joe and the other right wingers here endorse.

Remember when conservatives were butthurt over one guy kneeling during a football game? Stop pretending conservatives aren't sensitive crybabies.
One was complaining a few days ago about the "injustice" Uncle Ben suffered by being replaced as a company logo. 😵

I'm sure you must know that is utter nonsense and propaganda by now. Yet, you keep repeating it.

Lying has become a necessity for right wingers who aren't completely ignorant.
You dare write 'lying'????? All of these are lies, by liberals and their media.
Russian Collusion
Muslim Ban
Tax Cuts for the Rich....these were all lies. Here are some more ......

Kids in Cages
Ukraine impeachment
Avoiding Hunter Biden's laptop,,,,all of you are partners in crime* with him
Silence over Bobulinski who 'told all' about the nasty Bidens
Lafayette Park story (where Trump did photo op with bible). Total lie
Dismissing the Lab Leak theory. A lie
Ballot Integrity

That's enough for now. Someone add some more!

I will have you come in , right after the firemen visit the kids in the classroom, and tell them 'your side' of how to prosper and be self-reliant.
Please regale us now with your notes on that presentation . Please. You know, Capitalism vs. The Way You Think it Should Be. You don't have to mention Marx, I would have already told then what NOT to expect in my class. Can you imagine..." Children, although you are prospering and being self-reliant, there will always be the overriding, ominous shadow, where certain people will demand that you give a portion of your earnings to folks who do not earn......or prosper, or become self-reliant. You have to pick them up, as it were. Live with it, children!!!!!!!!"

Hey, Marauder says do away with honoring historical figures such as Columbus!!! And as libs often do, launches into exacting extraneous info about what REALLY happened in those days. Next he will be saying, as a lib, we should not have taken the land of the Indians! We should have never gone to Jamestown.
This feller has never heard 'you can't stop progress'.

Sometimes I hate it that the left has this word progressivism for their movement, which is the antithesis of progress.

Personally, I don't see how you can teach children even at the elementary school level without acquainting them with the unpleasant facts regarding the conquest of the Americas and the introduction and growth of slavery.

@Eot: Neither can I. Providing you reinforce that it was the British that did the colonization and the slavery.
Also, you must show some balance. Hopefully, you highlight more than ugly facts.
You'll give the kids an inferiority complex with no role models. What's that...? That's what libs want? Got it!

@no1marauder said
Even a first grader is likely to have heard of the American Civil War; how can the causes of that conflict be taught without discussing slavery?

@ET: I agree! Also, be sure to explain to them that it was the Republicans (Lincoln) fighting the democrats.

Yes yes! Well done.

Did I say that? That the wealthy work harder than their working and middle class parents? I didn't, and I don't know what you mean by quoting that. I may have said over the years, yeah, that some people work harder than others, and I have asked you how that works in your nirvana society. Like if 1000 people live on an island, and some work harder than others. You still don't get that?? What have I left out?

Can we explain to them that present day right wingers despise Lincoln, by and large say secession was justified and want to continue to honor CSA traitors with statutes and schools and military bases named after them?

Sorry, I didn't consider aggressive war combined with mass genocide and slavery "progress".

I've read biographies of Columbus and while he was somewhat of a visionary (though he erroneously thought he had landed in the Orient), he was a cruel butcher who does not deserve honoring. https://indiancountrytoday.com/archive/mutilation-and-other-carnage-war-crimes-committed-by-columbus

@no1marauder

Maybe true but honouring people just because they got conquered doesn't really do anything either. 🤔

Marauder your posts are not unlike those of the Duchess.

Did you see where Zahlanzi, who lives in a country that most of us could not find on a map, dares mock us? His life has been benefitted by the USA,, i will guarantee you that. Prob got his vaccine from us, and typing on one of our computers. Oh, and we and the allies kept Hitler from taking them over.
I w ...[text shortened]... s are . One of them starts with the phrase 'The day after,," How juvenile and cumbersome is THAT!
"Marauder your posts are not unlike those of the Duchess."
he sent you a link to educate yourself and you refused. He managed to do it without calling you an imbecile (something I long since lost the patience for).

But you no longer educate yourself right? You have no use for facts.

"who lives in a country that most of us could not find on a map"
your ignorance is your problem.

"His life has been benefitted by the USA"
probably, and? We have benefited from Canada too. The EU. Australia.

"Prob got his vaccine from us"*
The vaccine was a global effort. You claiming it's "from us" is just another example of american exceptionalism.
"typing on one of our computers"
which i paid for. It wasn't a gift. That makes it MY computer, sparky. Capitalism, remember? Not to mention most parts are made in China anyway.

"Oh, and we and the allies kept Hitler from taking them over"
So much stupid in this sentence. First of all, the US of today is not the US of WWII. Secondly, you removed Hitler for your own gain, not ours, proven by the fact you gifted Romania to Stalin.
Thirdly, the US sat and did jack while most of Europe and Russia suffered and did all the heavy lifting. The US committed to the war when it was most convenient and you served your own interest in the war
So spare me your chest thumping. Also, you most likely would have been one of the americans screaming to send jewish refugees back and opposing the war while being quite overtly nazi sympathizers.

"I wonder what the names of some of their holidays are . One of them starts with the phrase 'The day after,," How juvenile and cumbersome is THAT!"
This is too much work trying to untangle. We'll just add it to the pile of brain farts you often throw on these forums.

Sure, if you want to lie to the kids.

the republicans of Lincoln have as much in common with the GOP of today as does an apple with the crap you take after eating a strudel

the GOP of today is different even from the GOP of 20 years ago. Let alone 30.

So yeah, keep taking credit for Lincoln. Let's everyone know immediately just how clueless you are.

Interestingly, Italian-American groups insist that the holiday is actually honoring them as they are "immigrants" following in Columbus' footsteps: "Columbus Day is an integral part of the American and Italian American heritage. It was
created to affirm the United States as a “nation of immigrants.” The Pledge of Allegiance was
written to honor the day. While it is not exclusive to Italian American’s they have adopted it
as their own day when they can freely and openly celebrate their American lives. Columbus Day allows Italian Americans to collectively celebrate their coming to America." https://italiancenter.net/images/CDMatters20.pdf

I wonder why AJ is so fond of Columbus; he was certainly an "illegal" and the indigenous people of the Americas obviously tried to "secure their borders". Joe doesn't have any sympathy for a Guatemalan family fleeing violence and disorder in their own country, but he waxes poetic over someone coming to another's country to conquer it, enslave, murder and rape its People and rob whatever they could take by force - that's "progress".

Puzzling.
