Sure, if you want to lie to the kids.
Lie about what? We've had many discussions of the Civil War on this Forum and that is exactly what most right wingers believe. Are you denying, for example, that it is right wingers, present Republicans, who get in a tizzy if some Confederate general's name is taken off a military base (the US must be the only country in the world to honor traitors in that way) or some CSA politician's statute is scheduled for removal?

Personally, I don't see how you can teach children even at the elementary school level without acquainting them with the unpleasant facts regarding the conquest of the Americas and the introduction and growth of slavery.

@Eot: Neither can I. Providing you reinforce that it was the British that did the colonization and the slavery.
Also, yo ...[text shortened]... explain to them that it was the Republicans (Lincoln) fighting the democrats.

Yes yes! Well done.
And then right after that, explain how the Southern Democrats became Republicans in the 50-60 years after the Civil War.

why dont you explain it? Libs deny being liberal...democrats deny being democrat...when their dirt gets exposed.

"it was the Republicans (Lincoln) fighting the democrats."
the republicans of Lincoln have as much in common with the GOP of today as does an apple with the crap you take after eating a strudel

the GOP of today is different even from the GOP of 20 years ago. Let alone 30.

So yeah, keep taking credit for Lincoln. Let's everyone know immediately just how clueless you are.
I said *absolutely nothing* about aligning the modern day Republicans v. Lincoln's Republicans.

READ what I said, clueless, and if you can't understand it I'll sell you a vowel.

Interestingly, Italian-American groups insist that the holiday is actually honoring them as they are "immigrants" following in Columbus' footsteps: "Columbus Day is an integral part of the American and Italian American heritage. It was
created to affirm the United States as a “nation of immigrants.” The Pledge of Allegiance was
written to honor the day. While it is not ...[text shortened]... rder and rape its People and rob whatever they could take by force - that's "progress".

Puzzling.
ahhhh,, you think Columbus being Italian (flying Portuguese flag) had anything to do with it?

@no1marauder - said Lie about what?

This ----> @No1 said - "Can we explain to them that present day right wingers despise Lincoln, by and large say secession was justified and want to continue to honor CSA traitors with statutes and schools and military bases named after them?"

Present day right wingers hate Lincoln? Why why why do you lie???
Ever hear of the Log Cabin Republicans... just as a quick example? I bet you haven't

http://logcabin.org/

ABOUT LCR
Log Cabin Republicans is the nation’s largest Republican organization dedicated to representing LGBT conservatives and allies. For more than 40 years, we have promoted the fight for equality through our state and local chapters, our full-time office in Washington, DC, and our federal and state political action committees.

And you obviously don't know what really caused secession, do you. The northerners put such draconian taxes
on their goods, the South had no choice. That is what the Repubs wanted in order to justify war.

You're trying to claim that the Log Cabin Republicans are now representative of the GOP? I mean seriously, LMFAO! They didn't even endorse the Republican candidate for President in 3 of the last 8 elections. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_Cabin_Republicans#2020_presidential_endorsement

Maybe we should teach kids the reasons for the Civil War, since you are so cluelessly ignorant of them. Most of the Southern States seceded merely because Lincoln got elected; they didn't even wait for his inauguration. "No choice"? You're proving my point.

I suppose I could again put up some of the States' Reasons for Secession, which are almost exclusively focused on slavery. Do I have to do so, Earl?

Well yes but...

Back then each state had its own say and that war was so the federal government could dictate how things would be.

Anyone who thinks it was about slavery before 1863 is an idiot.

So then 1863 happened and they...the north... needed a new slogan because they were getting their asses kicked.

So northern idiots signed up for the cause of freedom... only to find out later they opened a can of worms that would make future cities into shytholes.

...oh and the BS of "preserving the Union" 🙄

Well, let's see what South Carolina said on December 20, 1860 in their "Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union" :

"The right of property in slaves was recognized by giving to free persons distinct political rights, by giving them the right to represent, and burthening them with direct taxes for three-fifths of their slaves; by authorizing the importation of slaves for twenty years; and by stipulating for the rendition of fugitives from labor.

We affirm that these ends for which this Government was instituted have been defeated, and the Government itself has been made destructive of them by the action of the non-slaveholding States. Those States have assume the right of deciding upon the propriety of our domestic institutions; and have denied the rights of property established in fifteen of the States and recognized by the Constitution; they have denounced as sinful the institution of slavery; they have permitted open establishment among them of societies, whose avowed object is to disturb the peace and to eloign the property of the citizens of other States. They have encouraged and assisted thousands of our slaves to leave their homes; and those who remain, have been incited by emissaries, books and pictures to servile insurrection.

For twenty-five years this agitation has been steadily increasing, until it has now secured to its aid the power of the common Government. Observing the *forms* [emphasis in the original] of the Constitution, a sectional party has found within that Article establishing the Executive Department, the means of subverting the Constitution itself. A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery. He is to be entrusted with the administration of the common Government, because he has declared that "Government cannot endure permanently half slave, half free," and that the public mind must rest in the belief that slavery is in the course of ultimate extinction.

This sectional combination for the submersion of the Constitution, has been aided in some of the States by elevating to citizenship, persons who, by the supreme law of the land, are incapable of becoming citizens;[no1: That's black folks] and their votes have been used to inaugurate a new policy, hostile to the South, and destructive of its beliefs and safety.

On the 4th day of March next, this party will take possession of the Government. It has announced that the South shall be excluded from the common territory, that the judicial tribunals shall be made sectional, and that a war must be waged against slavery until it shall cease throughout the United States.

The guaranties of the Constitution will then no longer exist; the equal rights of the States will be lost. The slaveholding States will no longer have the power of self-government, or self-protection, and the Federal Government will have become their enemy.

Sectional interest and animosity will deepen the irritation, and all hope of remedy is rendered vain, by the fact that public opinion at the North has invested a great political error with the sanction of more erroneous religious belief."

How about Mississippi?:

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery[no1: OOPS!]-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin. That we do not overstate the dangers to our institution, a reference to a few facts will sufficiently prove."

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

Eh whatever. Doesn't matter anyway. Even if you admitted you said that (again, the same riddle, are you trolling or are you just that stupid) it's not like you would change your mind or do a little self analyzing.

@no1marauder

Your point? 🤔
Obviously slavery was on its way out.
All northern states had slavery.
Just because they stopped first doesn't make them Holy.
The American flag was flying when slavery was legal.
Not the Confederate flag.
States Rights is more than slavery.
