LOL. That's hilarious! Well, I've beento the Yucatan Peninsula and I didn't see one ancient telescope the whole time I was there. Just a bunch of warped ruins and silly ball courts for human heads. 😠

I've heard something to the effect that all of that planets in the solar system are supposed to line up on that date, creating an amplification of the normal gravititional pull on the Earth, possibly tilting the Earth out of its current orientation of 23.5 degrees.
I say possibly, but not likely. And hardly the end of the world.

There is plenty of reason why somebody might, but my take on it is that they simply stopped predicting. Had to at some point.
