However, one thing bothers me. A quote from a journalist who was sitting through the trail went something like this "It seems that there was no evidence that he had much to do with the 9/11 bombings at all". This would appear to be the reason he didn't get the death penalty.

If this is the case, how come he was given life imprisonment with no possibility of release which is an extremely severe punishment.
Wheely,

He's a trophy prisoner!

The US can show how fair it is even in extreme cases such as this.

He kept telling everyone he was involved and their was some evidence on his home pc that he had some knowledge of what was being planned. With holding that information is a federal offence - a bit strange to have a law that says if you are involved in planning a crime, it's an offense not to tell the authorities!!!

When you're talking of the murder of almost 3 thousand innocent people, that alone would justify the sentence. That said, does that crime or any crime involving murder justify killing by the state as a punishment/retribution?

Although for all of the happy posters here hoping he gets all kinds of 'specials' from the other in-mates, he will be in solitary for the rest of his days for precisely that reason.

Is this by virtue of being English, English commoners, or simply because you pay their wages? Should your employer throw eggs at you if he feels your work is substandard?

Well this thread is more entertaining than FOX news! Too bad its going to fade into the mist of history considering we are courting disaster by letting the poles melt, the ocean current dissapear leading to a new ice age. All this talk about hating america and how many times Moussoui gets raped is just the thing to avoid confronting the realities of the morass we are REALLY getting into.

Ok, this I understand but would someone who knew a bank robbery was going to take place and didn't tell the police get life imprisonment with no possibility of parole?

I'm not saying the guy should be set free or anything, I'm just asking because I fear that punishment for crime is starting to depend on the consequences of it or even how many people know about it. Personally I think this is a bad thing.

If you are driving on a freeway/motorway, illegally talking on your phone, lose concentration and hit a bus full of children parked on the side of the road is your crime any worse than if the bus happened to be empty?

It might be hard to take but if this guy really didn't have much to do with the 9/11 bombings it seems he shouldn't have got such a harsh sentence. On the other hand he seems rather pleased that he did so perhaps it's not too bad anyway.

IMHO this dude will be watched like a hawk and guarded every minute just so there will be no torture or rape stories coming out which would be a political embarassment. Theoretically he is in the cell for 23 hours and out for one but I think out only means to walk around an inner enclosure by himself. I think he can kiss goodby to any human contact other than the guards, especially other prisoners. I have no doubt he would not last a week in the presence of the regular prison population and I am sure the guards know that so this guy will only see walls till he dies. Don't forget, NOT killing him denies him matyrdom, you can bet he would be exhalted or sainted or whatever Muslims do to honor their slain brothers if he was killed. Rotting in jail is a lot better for this kind of dude anyway. He is all arrogant now but come back in about a year, see how arrogant he is then.

AH, another blow for tolerance. So if they happen to be Arab, they should be killed? Why don't you throw in Sudanese, Vietnamese, Koreans, welll North Koreans and those dreaded Commie chinks while you're at it? Hell, why stop there?
