Pity, or concern? You may not realize it being new to this web site but behind most every keyboard here is a real human. Many have met in person either privately or at organized RHP meet-ups.
Of course a thread like this might worry many of us, I was organizing my thoughts for a PM to you when I read this post. This forum and how it has been for a ti ...[text shortened]... your chin off the ground, man! If I can be of any service, drop me another PM any time.

Why?
Why is hope perceived as such a wonderful thing that when someone says they don't hope anymore everyone's heart is stirred?
Is hope a good thing? Or just a thing? Why do we all seem to value it so much? What does that say about our lives as they actually are today?
What is it about our lives today that "hope" has to be a part of it or everyone scrambles to try to help (which I do appreciate even though I don't need it).
It is a real question. Can't someone be happy without "hope"? Has it always been this way?

Do you still hope? What for?
You hope to live another 10 years, I hope to live another five. Hope is our way of fantasizing about
the future, portraying tomorrow in our minds. It has no tangible value.. but it does keep us afloat.
Imagine how grim life would be without it.
Originally posted by mercurialPerhaps it's more to say "I've lost all hope" means you are in a dire situation... where as you never really had hope. I don't really have hope either as a concept, just little hopes. I hope my car starts. I hope my kid doesn't get hurt at camp today, I hope my garage door opener isn't fried (I taxed the heck out of it and it started smoking, turns out one of my springs had come undone and I didn't notice perceiving the problem to be on the other side of the door where the friction occurred).
Concern is a good word and it begs the real question I had.

So hope isn't really a big deal I don't think, it is more the concept of losing hope (in my mind anyway). Seems more like you just don't have a concept of it, and I'm not sure I do either.

hope
noun
1. the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best
I seem to be losing my ability to hope (and see at night, but that is another thread).
I am down to - I hope I live 10 more years to see my youngest to her 25th birthday. All my kids will be "adults" then and I will have probably fulfilled my responsibility when I decided to become a parent.

Agent Smith in The Matrix : "Hope is your (humanities) greatest weakness and your greatest strength". Now I'm I'm not saying I agree with this , it's just food for thought.
Anyway I generally find that what I wish/hope for is not what I really need.
I'm sure you've heard the saying "It's all in the mind" , now that IS a truism worth pondering.
Anyway, "hope" implies a view to the future, which is non-existent (ie we never get there). But literally it does not exist.
'Meaning' is also a futile human thing. There is no meaning other than what we give meaning to.
Am I painting a grim picture here?
I hope not 😉

Of course!!
If you are worried about dying then I suggest you dont. (easier said than done, I know).
But there is only the NOW. Not just 'living in the now', but a "now" that is transcendent and permanent. Thats where your "soul" will aim for as you start dying.
So try to die with your 'eyes open' 😉

Anyone ever hear of this? Perhaps it's a pilgrim thing dating back here in New England... God knows there were plenty of dairy farms and butter churns.
(Not meaning I cuss when I put vinegar on)
I always wanted to add some olive oil and make a salad.
