I'm with phlabibit on this one, not sure you can examine possible future outcomes without some form of hope sneaking into the equation, perhaps thinly disguised as detached conjecture.
I hope I can have a more 'devil may care' attitude to life in the future but I am not holding my breath.

Back to the subject of hope. It's an involuntary thing in my case, it expends no energy... But unlike worry isn't a negative thing.
Mercurial, any chance you're part Vulcan?
😉
Hope, a desire for a good outcome in a situation I have little or no control of.
Hope is something everyone dose, you can't stop it. Like worrying, you just do- you can try to modify and control it but you can't stop it. That's my opnion anyway. It's in our thoughts, subconscious and in our words when we cheer eachother up and talk about the future.
Wishing but not acting- that's different and I agree it's pointless, completely. Like entertaining the worrying thoughts about the things we can't control.
We lost our cat ages ago now, must be over a year. To be honest I don't miss her, but the kids, they hoped and hoped for her return. Everytime someone said they thought they'd seen her my 10 year old would go and look and of cause it was never her. Kitkat (the cat) was grumpy for a few days before she left, I suspect she went off to find somewhere quiet to expire. But occasionally the subject of her returns and I am always surprised at the childrens hope of finding her.
