The new Animal Collective album, entitled Strawberry Jam, is coming out very soon. I am lucky enough to have an advanced copy and I would just like to share with you how deeply this mesmerizing work has affected me.
First off, it is true and no secret to some that this band is my favourite band out there right now and that I feel no other band out there now comes close to their blend of creativity, originality and prolificness. That being said, I definitely have a bias as I've followed this band very closely since their Sung Tongs album many years ago. BUT that praise does not come easy from me. There is something about their formula, their unnaturally organic sound, that invokes every kind of emotion in me: joy, anger, sadness, nostalgia, you name it. In comparison, their music makes all of that rock and post-rock and old-new-wave coming out now seem so derivative and boring. It makes every album put out by every crappy NME UK darling seem like a cruel joke put upon this world. It makes me search for SOUL and MEANING in everything I hear.
Since I downloaded the album a few days ago, I cannot stop listening to it even though it comes at a time of new releases from some of my favourite bands (Shellac, Spoon, Interpol, Liars). Even on the Subway this morning, I found myself close to tears as the melodies of Winter Wonder Land came swirling through my head. I don't think that has happened to me EVER.
I know that this band may not be for a lot of you and many of you would find it challenging and maybe even unlistenable, I accept and understand that 100%. But for those who are fans of the band (and I know there are many out there), you will not be disappointed when Strawberry Jam comes out. You should rush out and buy it the DAY it comes out and go see them in concert even if you have to hitchhike to the next state/province/country. I have my ticket already. In my mind, they have cemented themselves as the greatest band of this decade, bringing something new and wonderful to the table in an era where it's never easy to be original. Surely a band to be remembered and revered by generations of musicians and artists to come, or at least me.
Okay, just wanted to share. I'm in a real state right now.
Have a nice day everyone.

How are you, mark? Have you made the jump to la belle province yet?
EDIT - if you enjoy Boredoms, perhaps you've listened to OOIOO as well featuring little Yoshimi P-We, the drummer girl?

I'm good, and jumping in about six weeks; how are you? Is that Yoshimi who battles pink robots?
Originally posted by ChronicLeakyDong well, buddy. Actually quite busy this summer. But if all goes according to plan, I'll be making a pilgrimage to Montreal and Q. City in the fall. Hopefully we'll be able to tip a few quarts of 50 in that distinct French-Canadian style. Maybe even take a trip to Mount Royal to laugh at the Hippies.

And as rumour would have it, they are the same Yoshimi.
EDIT - Dong well?
Originally posted by darvlayApologies, but I feel somehow obliged to comment upon the entirely arousing manner in which the bass player from OOIOO caresses the neck of her instrument...
