Does anybody here use AVG? If so, can you help please?
I can't update at all. I get connection and update list, but as soon as I click update it closes the server connection then looks for different establishments (1 & 2) which fail. My AVG is now completely out of date!

Any ideas what is causing this failure, and have you had a similar problem? I have googled (albeit not much) and got a link to check my registry. That link destroyed all of my registry setup and I have had to redefine it all!...

Best bet is to delete it completely. it has ruined many blitz games for me when it randomly starts downloading its updates right at a critical point of the game.

It sounds like it might have become corrupt in some way. Don't get rid of it totally. It is a very good virus protection. Maybe even the best. You might try uninstalling the program and reinstalling it with the latest application. Once you do that, be sure and do an update for all the definitions. I don't think it comes updated when you install. If you have a key code be sure and record it before uninstalling. I am sure you will need it. The free version is no problem as you know. I have mine set to update automatically.

What's the matter your computer can't walk and chew gum at the same time?

You know you can set the update time for a time for when it won't interfere with your chess, like when you first boot up.

Mine used to do that when I played checkers or something on some other site. It must be the java script or something. I don't know what it was, I hate when that happens.

But then again that was when I used to use internet explorer's browser too. I know one thing, the best thing that ever happened for me was firefox. Thanks to the suggestions from people here at RHP. If not for that I might still be using the dinosaur explorer browser from MS. I was pretty hard headed about the switch over too. Not everything about the good old days was all that good.

Do you get an error message or a code number. For example: (80070005)

edit: This is not on Vista, is it??

If you are using AVG 7.1 at the moment, we would like to ask you to upgrade to AVG 7.5 by following these steps:

1) Download latest installation file from:
www.grisoft.com/doc/programs
-> AVG Anti-Virus Plus Firewall 7.5
-> AVG 7.5 for Windows

2) Run this file and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, select option "Repair installation"

3) When finished, restart your computer and check the update functionality

In case the update still does not work, please go to AVG -> menu Information -> Technical Support by E-mail. This way, some detailed AVG information will be sent to us for analysis.
