I downloaded an avi file/movie - if I burn it to a DVD-R, will it play on my DVD player? Do I need some kind of divx adapter or something?

DivX player will play avi files but depending on the size of it I'd burn it to CD rather than waste a dvd.

Ya, I know that but I don't have a divx player. Will avi files play on a regular DVD player?

Easy.

You mean on a hardware DVD player for your TV or something?
If so, try here:

To be clear, I don't want to watch the movie on my computer, I want to watch it on my TV but i don't have a divX player. Is it possible?

Cool site. What type of file would I need to convert my avi to to be able to watch it on my TV?

If you have Nero 6 or higher you should be able to code the avi onto a DVD for play on a traditional hardware player. If not, go get it.

Just a quick note... I use Nero 6 too, but some older model DVD players don't support files that are burned on blank DVD's. However, most newer model DVD players do.

Good Luck!

It depends on the player. There are now some out there which can play these formats. Easy enough to check if yours can.

Updates should be available from the manufacturers' websites. These will give you the CODECs you'll need.

Nero Vision 6, I think, not just Nero Burning Rom.
