Originally posted by PalynkaYeah, great idea. Let's have a secret police. You'll never know when or why a ban, temporary or permanent, might hit you. If you complain, you'll get a permanent ban. The rules can be changed at any time, but there's no need to tell anyone, otherwise where would the fun be for the moderators? It sounds like a great system everybody would be happy with.
This is why mods shouldn't have to explain anything. In the end it only creates more resentment against them.

Originally posted by PalynkaThat doesn't make it okay. To punish people for something without even telling them why is wrong, ineffective and creates a bad atmosphere. Changing the system would be easy, after all belgianfreak is already doing it. It won't make a difference for world politics, but neither do other changes of the site, like getting a new profile page.

Explaining it in the public forums serves no purpose, except to give way to sanctimonious posts regarding 'censorship' and accusations of bias.
Originally posted by stockenNo, it's not the other way around. I've been doing this for years. I've made my decision.
It's quite the other way around. Otherwise you're right.
Most users think their posts are some kind of golden egg, and fight for their right to post what they like and I get into a circle battle weather I inform a user or not.

Originally posted by PalynkaI never asked for public explanations. They wouldn't be necessary if the person who gets banned got an explanation in the first place.

As an example, I talked with Noodles about why she got a ban for double posting a removed thread on the "F Word". She tried to justify it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, and the only difference is I didn't tell her it was me that removed the post.
She treated it like it was her right to have an intelligent conversation about the "F Word" and it was no harm and no foul. I talk with many users about their removed posts or bans, I just don't always tell them it was me that did it.
So, still... any user will still think their post was golden and shouldn't have been touched. I've warned people also and some have said, "you do what you have to do, but I'm going to do it anyway."
That is why I see no advantage to telling a user I removed their posts or banned them.
Stocken, in your case for starting a thread that would cause trouble... did you have any doubts it would? I made a hasty decision, and undid it yesterday. More info came out and it turned out I was right on the money.

Option 2) Banned with an explanation or at least previous warnings. Possibly leading to protest, but nothing as bad as what you saw here, I'm sure.
I'm pretty sure if you explain the ban properly at once, there would be less confusion and, thus, less nagging in the public forums about it.
