They soothe, inspire, relax, excite, enrage and get us thinking.
Everyone goes through phases where they are more appreciative of some bands at certain stages.
Who's appearing regularly on your play list right now and who do you wish to throw to rabid badgers?
Love:
Engerica
Death Cab for Cutie
Gogol Bordello
Queens of the Stone Age
Tool
Hate:
Tori Amos (Recent addition after years of advocating her - she now makes my ears bleed, which makes the rest of me very unhappy...)
Evanescence
Incubus
Lacuna Coil.
Currently,
In heavy rotation:
Animal Collective (always) : challenging and highly rewarding
Deerhunter : swirly shoegaze melodies, if My Bloody Valentine grew up in the nineties
Field Music : beautifully crafted guitar pop songs
Spoon : GaGaGaGaGa is the album of the summer
The Specials : rediscovered my love for their first album
Used to love, but am currently hating:
Interpol : New album was a real let-down, vocals sound completely washed out, so disappointed
Totally hate:
Pretty much anything the kids like these days.

Originally posted by NatsiaI saw Gogol Bordello live last year. They were awesome in concert. Highly recommended if you get a chance to see them live.

Went to an art exhibition themed "church of satan" (parody of religion and belief structure in so-called modern societies) recently, one of the video pieces had a snippet of an avril levinge (sp?...nah, don't really care too much) song which played every 5 minutes.
We were there for 2 hours, it truly was hell.
I can do without never ever ever ever ever ever ever hearing the Rolling Stones, Queen, Neil Sedaka, The Beach Boys (except Good Vibrations), and Guns and Roses (Goons and Hosers), and any Rap or Hip Hop.
And like Darv, I'm pretty out of touch with the latest music so anything the youth seem to be into now "sucks balls" to quote that fine man.
I never get tired of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Beatles, and have been listening to Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd quite a bit.
And even though Led Zeppelin was a lip-sync band, they were pretty good too. In an Archies kind of way.
