Originally posted by sjegLike I said earlier, I prefer Scotch to Bourbon, for most of the reasons mentioned (smoother, better finish, etc.), but I disagree with you that it is "vastly inferior" as a product. That doesn't necessarily mean I agree wwith that moron Chancre and whatever nonsense he spouted off. I'm just saying there are quality bourbons out there and I know of many people who prefer them to good Scotches. I could care less what it's called as that is completely trivial to me although I see that it's very important to you.
Whether it's inferior or not shouldn't be an issue, as it should not be classed as whiskey.
In Ireland, where whiskey originates, mind, we've been at making it for a while, you know.
You need pure water, barley, and a bloody expert distiller.
If you make a drink with maize, add Godknowswhat to it, sweeten it up and sell it to the masses who pour Cocaco ...[text shortened]... te test. If you knew real Irish or Scotch, you wouldn't be having this problem (no offense).
Originally posted by darvlayI am not saying Bourbon is inferior; there are different types of Scotch Whisky anyway ( malt. single malt, blended) although connoisseurs agree that single malt is the finest. I think the production of Scotch Whisky is more complex. Oddly, Scotch Whisky is spelt with no "e" , unlike Irish Whiskey and American Whiskey, not sure what the reason behind this is though...
Obviously it's made different but who's to say it's inferior to scotch or irish whiskey, like little sjeg says? I've tasted some horrendous Scotches and some great Bourbons. I've also tasted some great Scotches and some harsh Bourbons It's all a matter of taste.
And we do call Bourbon "whiskey" as well because that's what it is, just like we have rye whiskey in Canada.
Sjeg, you're a muppet.
Thank God for Irish Whiskey: without it, there'd be no Bailey's and life would just not be the same 🙂
Originally posted by FrenchQueenSjeg said it was vastly inferior, not you. And like I said twice earlier, I prefer Scotch (Yes, single malt) to any type of Canadian or American Whiskey.

And Thank God for Irish Booze as without it, they would have no culture to speak of. 😉

I can neither confirm or deny your claim as I don't have a dictionary in front of me!
Anyway, how can you comment on beer - your French, you only drink vin!!!
