Well that's a really small simple one that I killed a lot of time with back in the day. For long adventure games it's King's Quest V. Tank Wars is easy to find a version of to download, but I recommend getting a DOS emulator if you're using anything above Windows 98. A good one is DOS Box. Oh yeah, the original versions of Warcraft were good fun too.

I always preferred arcade games and games with puzzle elements. I'd say ZZT was one of my favorites. Terrible ASCII graphics, but great game play. I also liked the Commander Keen series.

Edit - You can still find ZZT and its many addon games on abandonware sites. Also, the shareware versions of CK can be found there.

Dosbox with Dfend work very well - what is the trick to get games working by joystick?

Not sure, I only use me keyboard, I'll see if I can figure it out and post an answer though.

I also tried Dosbox and Dfend on a few games. (Haven't used it extensively, though.) I did get one of the Commander Keen games to work with a joystick in Dosbox, so I know it's possible.

Edit - In the Profile Editor, did you pick the joystick type under the Bios tab?

my all time favorite is PreHistoric 2. I had managed to finish that one, doing 8-17 working hours 🙂

Mahjongg (not the pyramid type, the one human vs. 3 computer-player poker-type Mahjonng). that was really good.

Duke Nukem, Commander Keen.

Oh, and when mentioning the Commander Keen series, I just can't leave out the "lost Keen episode", Keen Dreams. Eat your veggies!!!
