Most spyware isn't needed. I rarely use it after I realized that if I deleted the cookies and temporary internet files I rarely saw a single spyware detection.
I use Avast for virus protection which is free with registration and works great.
You will probably find stuff in there you had no idea was inside your machine. The idea of a trojan is to NOT do bad things to the computer so you see no slowdowns,etc., but instead it does stuff, depending on the particular trojan, like sending every keystroke to a real assshole who will suck up your credit card #'s if you buy stuff online, etc.
You may feel differant about the value of anti-ware then.
