Hi,
I use Ad-Aware & Spybot S&D.
Could anyone suggest any other outstanding Freeware Anti Spyware software?
Thanks.
AVG AntiSpyware is free [different program to AVG antivirus]
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5
and Superantispyware has a free version.

Also Windows Defender - free and has real-time protection- unlike the above two. [unless you get the paid-for version]

Unlike AntiVirus programs it's OK to have more than one of these type programs running - they don't normally conflict with each other.
If you want to pay for one [or thieve one from somewhere] Spysweeper would be a good choice I reckon. Personally I prefer free stuff.

Originally posted by st00p1dfac3That is blatantly not true. Spyware has so many variants any one brand of anti will not pick it up. Since you only actually run one at a time, the others are in the background and you don't have to accept them in the msconfig window, you can kill it from the start up tab but they will still be available from a shortcut. You don't want to have two running simultaneously but having several in the background in standby is ok.

Also, beware of spyware masquerading as anti.
This stuff is called Rogue spyware, here is a site that lists all the known varieties:
http://spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
You need the following (all free):-
- Firewall e.g. ZoneAlarm
- AntiVirus e.g. AVGFree
- Antispyware e.g. AVG Antispyware
- Bonus checks SpyBot S&D, Lavasoft Adaware, Hijack this
You can also go for the pro versions of Zonealarm or AVG internet suite which integrate firewalls, antispyware and antivirus together.
To clarify:
Multiple anti SPYWARE programs is OK [to run or not to run together - your choice]
Multiple FIREWALLS is not OK [other than an added hardware/router firewall which is OK ]
Multiple ANTI-VIRUS programs is not OK.
Most [tho' not all] of the free Anti-Spyware programs have to be started manually and don't have real-time protection.
AVGAntiSpyware is a trial with the full version which reverts to the free version at the end of it.

Most spyware isn't needed. I rarely use it after I realized that if I deleted the cookies and temporary internet files I rarely saw a single spyware detection.
I use Avast for virus protection which is free with registration and works great.
Anti-spyware stuff IS needed these days whether you have been lucky or not - you need to be prepared.
The spyware makers seem to think it's worth doing.
