the 'genuine advantage notification' -thingy can be unistalled though, and it's reinstallation subsequently avoided by custom installing the updates and unchecking GAN when ever bill tries to sneak it in. that's a goodbye for most updates, but you still get security updates.

Micro$oft seem to think we can't spot the "If we can't sell this crap, we might as well give it away" attitude they're hiding behind this pitiful attempt to try and bribe everyone with free XP goodies to cover up the dismal flop of Vista. Which, as you may have guessed, I don't think is worth paying for.
If you're not prepared to stick with XP, then head over to the Linux gang.
