I'll bet you do, Moldy, I'll bet you do!

The most annoying thing about Canada (or Canadian backpackers in Europe, at least)...

the bleedin' Maple Leaf.

They stick them on their bags, shirts, hats, backpacks, knickers... all of this vibrant nationalism... all based around distinguishing themselves from their close neighbour so that people won't take the piss out of them so much, or react negatively to their foreign policy (incidentally, Canada should look into getting one of those).

Needless to say, the general levels of contempt in their direction tend to rise. Especially when they get all offended if someone thinks them American.

Here's a bulletin for you:

Noone cares, ya silly Hoosers!

And in Entertainment news:

Celine Dion / Brianwitha'y' Adams:

[b]Crimes Against Humanity!!

A lot of Maple leaved people we met in South America, were actually americans.

The Star Spangled brigade aren't too nationalistic when they're trying to travel in countries which the american government have completely fecked up during the past hundred years. Hell no, I'm Canadian.

The list of Canadian bands you should know about (but most likely don't) goes on forever. As can be said about most countries. However, we are lucky, right now, to be the focus of a lot of hipsters who claim Montreal (and to some effect, Toronto) to be the hottest scene right now.

Montreal? Any French influence on the music there?

You couldn't mention a handful of good bands?

You've already mentioned one yourself. G!YBE is from Montreal. So are The Arcade Fire, arguably the most popular indie band a la mode. As well as Stars, Do Make Say Think, Dears, Sadies, etc. etc.

Here's an article for you to read:

I don't know...

Avril Lavigne is pretty cutting edge. I mean, really, they know what they are doing there in Canada.

I don't want to ginx it, and say too much, but having listened intently to some of her latest stuff, she's almost fit to be said to be the new Celine Dion.

[b]My Lord, Canada. You surely put the capital 'C' in Cool!

No, unles it made The National, I missed it. I have the misfortune of being in the States (Minneapolis, Minnesota), far enough away to not have even CBC on cable. I am resigned to watching Newsworld International, which carries The National. I have asked around for someone in Canada to record curling for me, but for the last two winters, I have been shut out.

i like GSYBE and DSMT, but i didn't know they're Canadian - thanks! Don't forget Sons of Otis! But on the bad side, i think REO Speedwagon were Canadian weren't they. But more than countering that, Neil Young is Canadian, as are/were the Cowboy Junkies...
