The government's decision that cannabis should remain a Class C drug came as it accepted it could trigger serious mental illness. Here, one father tells the traumatic story of how cannabis turned his bright and promising teenage son into a wreck.

Absolutely right.
But that's what I've been telling Ivanhoe for more than a year over on the Discussion forum.
That's why I didn't go into it here.
But you seem pretty much right in your diagnosis.
There are also some facts I really think should be pondered on:

Never use crack cocaine.
Never shoot (using a needle) heroin.

The way I see it this: Sure there are some health risks associated with cannabis use. Sure, it can bring out mental illness. Sure, you get lethargic if you smoke all day everyday.
BUT, the health risks associated with cannabis are nowhere near the health risks associated with alcohol, so if governments are going to allow adults to make their own choices regarding their health and alcohol, then the same should be done for cannabis.
If I chose to drink whiskey all day everyday, the damage I'd do to my body and mind would be incomparable and more irreversible than if I sat at home smoking spliff all day.
Especially, considering it was illegalised at the behest if the u.s. and Harry Anslinger in particular. Why? Because of fear mongering: "Cannabis makes white women lay with black men", and "cannabis makes the mexican thinks hes better than the white man"
Why the fearmongering by Anslinger? Because one of his big buddies, Hearst, had invested heavily in the lumber industry for the paper industry and didn't want hemp to be used as a competing product. The pharma company, Dupont supplied most of the chemicals for this process so they couldn't allow a natural alternative to be produced. They had also patented nylon at the time, and hemp was a better, more natural alternative, so it had to be stopped.
Since Nixon expecially, the motivations have changed. It is now used, especially in the u.s. by the ruling christian right to keep the minorities without a vote. What better way to keep in power, than by taking the votes of the people who are most likely to vote you out.
If Jesus had turned water into orange juice and loaves into skunk, would you be posting this crap repeatedly in the forums? I know religious institutions are against freedom of choice and free thought, but this is ridiculous.
