Look at Mexico right now. They are in trouble because the tortillas are getting too expensive. Corn makes about about 1/3 of the staple in Mexico and even higher for the poorer citizens.
Why is this happening?
Simple, environmental "tree-huggers" are demanding cleaner fuel; therefore, the farmers are selling the corn as fuel to the power plants because they make more money than selling it to the food chain. Remember, american farmers do not get support from the government like in Europe. Is it wrong - you make the call!
Let say that you are going to sell your old car and you have two potential buyers. The first buyer is willing to give you $5,000 for your vehiche as is and the other is willing to pay $3,500, but only if you do extensive repairs first for $1,500.
If you choose the first, then you are a capitalist like most Americans, but if you would select the second opinion, let me know because then I want to buy your car. With other words, the car is sold to the person who willing pay the highest price and can come up with the money.

It is better that you stay poor but get to keep all of that food for yourself.
Sounds fair doesn't it?

If I'm not mistaken, corn has doubled in price. Largely due to it's use as a tax payer subsidized alternative fuel. Those Mexicans are getting the shaft by Big Corn™. I think we should put a windfall profits tax on ADM.
