I wonder how long it will take for some countries or the United Nations to declare chess a hate crime and illegal to be caught playing or be in possession of a board and/or pieces? Since the game involves war, imposing of the will on your opponent, savagery, and merciless campaigns of contempt waged against your foe and his/her pieces, someone will decide that its "too bloodthirsty, too mean spirited, and not within the UN's goals of world peace and prosperity for all countries"-- some politically correct rubbish along those lines.
Sound crazy? Hey, I laughed when reading about thought crimes in Orwell's 1984-- "he's talking about the tyranny of the Soviet Union and Stalin as Big Brother"-- little did I know we would have thought crime legislation on the books in my lifetime. Also, we have people agreeing with these laws and calling for more to be done, such as a noose or the Confederate flag being displayed would be considered "offensive to some and a hate crime" to be punished by law.
Yikes! My apologies to the Soviets -- the U.S. is taking small steps towards a dictatorship-- perhaps George was a visionary with his eyes and descriptions on the U.S. in 1984, not necessarily the Soviet Union.🙂

A noose being offense to some? Well yes it is. It is offense to me. For what reason is the noose displayed? What does it represent? Is it the same as a Dallas Cowboy or "Clinton in 08" bumper sticker?
Norman Rockwell did a series of paintings, The Four Great Freedoms". One of them was "Freedom From Fear". Please consider that message and the message the noose sends. Which is how you want America to be?

After the 1979 Islamic revolution, the game was banned in public on the count of encouraging gambling, and players went underground with their boards and pieces.
