Well I'm here, arrived last Sunday. First and noteable observation: The driving here is absolutely suicidal, believe me. Has anybody been to a country where they thought the driving was crazy? Well beat China? They drive towards you, contraflow, where there is 3 lanes each way! The pedestrians don't use the pavement but walk down the middle of dual carriageways where traffic is doing 50mph. My getting to and from work is more stressful than my actual job! I can't really explain, but it's ruddy scary! Anybody here experienced being in a taxi in China?

Which side of the road do they drive on - Europe or North America styles?

Shanghai has much better traffic dicipline than Beijing (Peking) because they have too many bicyclist on the road who don't care, but the roads are wide.

Originally posted by LuckIn Rome, there IS a kind of etiquette. I'm in a place called Wuhu, 100km south of Nanjing which is 350Km west of Shanghai....... so I'm in a TOWN (With a population of 2,5M!). The cars a bootleg copies of 30 yrs old cars, the glass in the doors rattles, if you can wind them up.... 600 people a day get killed and 45,000 a day are injured in China. Can that be topped?
