don't mess with the police either. a friend of mine saw them kill a guy for picking up a fight (with them) in a bar. the cops left the dead body lying naked outside the bar.

...until I went to India. The driving there is unbelievable. No road signs, no rules, traffic lights are to be ignored, every man for himself ... and fastest vehicle seems to have right of way - unless you are a cow.

What is the difference except that the European drivers are generally much more skillful drivers than the North Americans. He it is too easy to get a license because the road-tests are jokes, not to mention the written tests.

* He was lucky, because he didn't know how to do left turns. He had learned how to drive when he had to get a friend (who had been driving) to the hospital in an emergency.
i think taxi drivers in china get a prison sentence if they hit a pedestrian. maybe it makes them more careful.
i had a friend from china who failed the driving test twice. the first time, straight off he backed out in front a car, and the trooper told him the test is over, park the car. the second time he arranged to meet me so he could drive to the Dept of Motor Vehicles. he drove up with a university cop wailing on his tail; he had hit a parked car and hadn't stopped (so he didn't actually fail but he missed the test appointment, dealing with the cop).
