The difference between Florida and ND is that ND got most of its scores because Michigan turned the ball over and gave ND a short field.
I find it difficult to believe that a ND homer can stir up this kind of discussion for so long.
Anyhew, why is no one talking about BYU? They beat UCLA 59-0!!! Ok, so its a fluke maybe. Then they beat Wyoming 44-0!! Ok, so maybe its two flukes in a row? Oh, wait, there is one more possibility and that is that neither UCLA nor Wyoming are any good? That argument does not impress me that much either because I know of few teams that could have run up such numbers as well as shut these teams out no matter how "bad" UCLA and Wyoming may be. I say something is brewing in BYU. Additionally, I suspect they will be snubbed nationally because of who they are rather than for what they have become. So go ahead and proclaim teams like USC and Florida as the best in the country while ignoring such teams as BYU. Just be glad that teams like USC and Florida are stuck playing Big Ten teams in NCG's, and in their own back yards to boot, rather than playing teams showing great potential like BYU.
That's the exact reason why we need to have a Division IA play-off system. It wouldn't do away with bowls. Take the top 16 teams in the nation (made up of conference champions and BCS rankings to fill in the rest) and let them fight it out for four weeks, culminating in the BCS championship game. All 16 teams could play in January bowls, with the losers of the final 4 playing in the BCS January 1st BCS bowl, while championship teams get a week off.
All other bowls play as they normally do. Only the 16 teams in the playoff would have their bowls determined by how far they make it in the play-offs. 10 of those teams play BCS bowl games, the other 6 play in other January 1st bowls.

Originally posted by gambit3Well that is just it, isn't it? BYU will play NO ONE of significance this year thanks to the scheduling. Therefore, no matter the team they put out there they MUST snub them for the major BCS bowls.

However, as for USC, what can they say in terms of scheduling? Ohio State perhaps? LOL. You know, that is where they get their reputation from which is beating up on the Big Ten. As for the rest of their schedule, I suppose you could make arguments that Oregon and Arizona State are "good". (yawn).
Yep, they will walk right into the NCG unmolested....again. Hopefully the BCS will actually pair up teams with a little parity this time.
Ohio State is down this year. Usually they are one of the top teams, but this is a rebuilding year. It just goes to show that you don't know how good a team will be in four or five years which is about how far out games are scheduled.
In any case, what is your solution to this problem? The BCS has created a reason for teams to schedule nothing but cream puffs because if a BCS team can go undefeated, chances are it will be playing for the MNC.
Originally posted by EladarOSU is down this year? You mean like the years they got blown out of the last two NCG's? No, they are not any worse this year than last year. The only difference is that they played USC mid way through the season. In addition, they face a far better Penn State club than last year. As a result, they will have at least two losses this year I think.

All I know is that I am sick to death of USC being paired with the best Big Ten team in the Rose Bowl. Really, the only way to prevent this is for them to go to the NCG which hopefully is not against a Big Ten team. These match ups are antiquated. For example, USC and the best Big Ten team used to be on equal footing, however, as of late USC has beaten the last past 14 Big Ten teams they have played. In fact, they have humiliated them badly. In addition, the last 9 match ups OSU has had against SEC teams have resulted in losses. As a result, the least they could do is match up USC with the best SEC team in the Rose Bowl every year.
Of course, it would be nice to have a play off system of some kind. That way blow outs, although boring, will not leave you wondering how this pathetic team got into the NCG.
Originally posted by whodeyBYU has the same problem year after year. For more then thirty years they have failed to schedule top rated teams. Maybe they should call Bobby Bowden and ask him how he made Florida State a college football power.

I guess based on their track record, they have been rebuilding at Ohio State for the last 15 years. 😕
Originally posted by EladarNo arguments there. I say they need a play off system by using the bowl system they have currently. Of course, the losers will be those teams who are not "elite" teams and would probably never see a bowl in their entire history. All we would end up having are the same old dominate elite teams fighting it out in the same old bowls, which is arguably what it has come down to already in many respects.
The Pac-10 has been dominating the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl for as long as I can remember. College football has always had the problem of conference play making certain teams look good.
The idea of voting on who is the best team without actually allowing the teams to play is absolutely pathetic.
