Yes they are. However, the 'Phins had some great teams in the '80's (not a ton of d though) and in the '90's (good d, not great o). They were consistently making the playoffs. In fact, I think they played in 4 or 5 AFC Championship games from 82 to 93 and won the AFC East at least 7 times since '80.

And isn't this thread about College football?

That's the exact reason why we need to have a Division IA play-off system. It wouldn't do away with bowls. Take the top 16 teams in the nation (made up of conference champions and BCS rankings to fill in the rest) and let them fight it out for four weeks, culminating in the BCS championship game. All 16 teams could play in January bowls, with the losers of ...[text shortened]... lay-offs. 10 of those teams play BCS bowl games, the other 6 play in other January 1st bowls.
I already solved this with the MCS: http://www.timeforchess.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=82128&page=1

You guys don't get it. In college football is isn't about who is having an up or down year. It is about being loyal to your conference and school no matter what. When my Gophers had only one win last year I rooted just as hard as when they made it to the crummy bowl games.

What do you mean? I will always root 'Canes. Last years 5-7 wasn't pleasant, but I've been a Miami fans for 40 years. Hell, in the '70's we were lucky to win 3 games a year.

Any predictions regarding my Buckeyes and your Gophers this weekend?

It's time to prepare for battle. 😠

Forget that; USC lost to Oregon State!! It looks like another roller coaster season.

Don't try to kid us, you thought this was a roller coaster season when Notre Dame lost.

USC has to hope that either the Big 12 or SEC top team has at least two losses.

USC has to hope that whoever they face in the BCS it is a team within the Big Ten as it always seems to be.

This isn't necessarily true. It often depends on when a teams loses. I have seen many teams lose in September climb right back into things, but a loss in late October or November are quite deadly.

I think it has already proven to be a roller coaster season, like pretty much every college football season. It is quite rare to have a team go start to finish ranked #1.

Predictions!!!

Purdue over ND

OSU over the Gophers

Penn State over Illinios

Alabama over overrated Georgia

Wisconsin over that team up north. It is the first time that Wisconsin has been favored while playing in Michigan. In addition, if Wisconsin wins, it will be the first time in over 40 years they have beaten them back to back years. Also, it will be the first time since 1967 UM would loose their home opener in the Big Ten. You know, I always save the best for last. SWEET!!!

USC plays a weak schedule, therefore they are at a disadvantage against a one loss Big 12 team and a one loss SEC team. That was my point.

As for predictions:

I'm taking every Big 12 team, although the Colorado vs FSU and Nebbish vs VT games I'm not too certain about.
