This looks OK, but you should restart your PC in safe mode and do a virus scan. This may help you delete files that cannot be deleted in normal mode.

you're going to have to tell her what safe-mode is

just out of curiousity.. do you have a little icon of the printer on your task bar beside your clock? maybe some jobs are spooling and have gotten corrupted.. (I would have thought a reboot would resolve that though)

if the icon is there, double click it, and see if you see anything listed in the white box

What happens when you restart the machine?

spoolsv should be in the c:\windows\system32 folder, if you find it anywhere else, then its the either one of the following trojans/viruses...
No. This isn't necessarily so.

hey Mokko? did you recently install Microsoft Image Writer, or the 60 day trial version of MS Office? found a post with someone with similar problems, and it was the Image Writer program.

This is the most likely issue.

Moko, can you go to your printers folder and tell us all the printers you have installed? Also, check that none have print jobs.

Edit: Safe Mode is a special mode for your PC used for debugging microsoft screw-ups. You can boot into safe mode by tapping F8 on startup and then selecting "Safe Mode" from the menu.

When did it start going wrong? Did you make any changes just before it started going pear shaped? Have you installed any freebies from web sites? Try going to symantec's web site and do an online scan there: -

This is VERY TRUE!!! WinXP was written for the sole purpose of letting 3rd party users into YOUR COMPUTER! 😠

Last week I had to do a total re-installation of the operating system cause my computer was overrun by spyware. And I HAVE 3 different anti-spyware programs too! But the problem is that WinXP WAS WRITTEN FOR 3RD PARTY VENDORS! The anti-spyware programs can't keep up with them! 🙁

So, like other people suggested, d/l and install Spybot and that'll clean 95% of the crap that's slowing your computer down.

SPECIAL NOTE! When you search for Spybot in Google, DON'T go to the first listing shown!!! THAT SITE has d/led Spybot, HACKED IT, and is actively giving it out to people trying to get rid of spyware! Make sure you go to the official Spybot site to get your programs.

Haven't installed anything on my computer. Don't even use this for much, a couple kids sites, here 😀 and a few other select sites. (Not porn)

So I need to turn my comp off? Restart it? All I have stored on it is family pictures and I bunch of songs I download (which I scan) and haven't even done that in awhile. I have alot of stuff in my trash can. Does this affect my comp? I didn't think it would once it was put in the bin.

I'm going to try a couple of things but I'm afraid to really do anything with all the files and programs I don't use because I'm not sure of their relevence.
