I installed windows xp sp2 about 1month ago, and my PC ran perfectly until today.
Lots of programs stop responding or take forever to open and I have no clue what's wrong.I have an AMD64 3200+ 1gb of ram so windows xp shouldn't be sluggish, there are no new programs in the startup list, or any new services that start and I know every program that starts on booting, I just scanned for spyware/viruses and stuff like that, the computer is clean, I defragmented it, checked my hdd it has no errors, and I haven't added any new components recently. Any idea what could be the problem?
I'm running zonealarm security suite, I scanned with AVG 7.5 a-squared free and Ad-aware Se personal, all are up to date, the defragmenting was done with diskkeeper.

Originally posted by omulcusobolaniI believe Zone Alarm Security Suite includes an AntiVirus program so if your AVG 7.5 is the AV program of that name, you should ensure you only have one of them running at a time.

Nothing in your post indicates [to me, anyway] anything obviously wrong - if you haven't already you could try cleaning out all the junk etc.
Use a free program like ccleaner or ATF.

You can safely use both if you want.

XP SP2 has been out for nearly 3 years! Glad to see you're keeping up with the times!
Also a lot of people don't want to upgrade because their computers run ok with XP and only around 512 Ram - which is not enough for Vista really.
So you pay $200 or whatever for Vista and THEN find you have to spend another $200 upgrading hardware too. š
No thanks!
