i was at a careers fair recently and put my name down on the e-mail list for a company that, essentially, trains graduates to become IT consultants or programmers. i received a bulk e-mail from them today asking me if i was still interested, but i was rather shocked at seeing the addresses of everyone else that was being e-mailed too. instead of a blind carbon copy or something they had just stuck everybody in the "to" bit.
now i can't see anything wrong with this per se, but with most bulk e-mails like this the recipients are hidden. i'm also not too fond of my e-mail bouncing around cyber space with the prospect of some spammer picking it up. i like having no spam...
it just doesn't inspire me with confidence in this company that is attempting to train IT consultants.
meh. or maybe i'm just tired and bored and picking faults in other people... 😞

I think you're quite right to be concerned.
Any reputable IT company would know to BCC everyone in, otherwise emails get shared, successful candidates can communicate with non successful candidates etc
So unless they show incompetence on levels that actual does involve someone who should know better, don't immediately cross the name from the list per definition.

You will more than likely find that it was some snotty nosed graduate that sent the emails out.

Where there's blame there's a claim!
