Coping with rejection

General

Absolutely.

I deal with rejection on a daily basis from my dog! She will lovingly rest her head on the knee of anyone who has a plate of food in front of them and then bare her teeth at me if I try to stroke her. Such is the herding instinct of the possessive female Border Collie 😫

@divegeester

I told ya to start the Anti-Club.

For those not chosen.

Clubs here never really get going or last though.
Some have gone years without a post.

She’s devoted to me most of the time, a wonderful, loyal dog though the breed is notorious for it’s challenging behaviour particularly when kept in a family home and not used for herding sheep. And of course she’s had two former homes so life has been hard on her. We all love her very much and now know her flash-points so her occasional nips are now very rare.

The UK dog rescue centres are currently overfilled with the many rejected dogs which were impulsively acquired during the start of Covid lockdown. Some people now can’t afford to keep them, can’t manage them since returning to work or just got bored with them. Lots of dogs also rescued form illegal puppy farms too which exploit the public’s desire for the ‘more affordable’, latest popular dog breed like French Bulldogs, Cockapoos, Bijon’s etc

Whatever flips your switch, dude.

I can't relate to your apparent elevated anxiety levels. Tell yourself whatever you need to hear to cope.

Dive probably copes quite well with rejection lets face it he has had more practice than most.

My seeming to be frazzled is a figment of your imagination.

I cope with rejection as all grown-ups do: by learning the lesson, accepting it, and moving on.

Rejection is part of life, an essential lesson in growing up, one of the chief ingredients of becoming emotionally mature. You ask your mommy for a cookie before dinner and she says 'no' -- you ask a girl to the prom and she says 'no' -- you apply for what you imagine to be your dream job and Steve Jobs says 'no' -- you run for re-election to public office and the electorate says 'no'. You apply to join a private club and the door is closed to you. Yes, it feels bad the moment one receives a negative message, but people learn this way that they have limits they cannot breach. People learn this way that you can't always get what you want. People learn this way that they don't have entitlements. People learn this way that sometimes other people are in control. One copes by accepting that some paths in life are not passable for a given person and one tries a different path.

What is it you hope to achieve in this thread? Are you phishing for an ally? Someone to say "aww, you were treated soooo unfairly" ?
