Well done to Darvlay, rhb, GalaxyShield, Chris, The Plumber, alcra and Jimmy who all got 428 in that round, probably the hardest of all the rounds so far. Here are their solutions, with GalaxyShields first due to the beautiful simplicity of it…
GalaxyShield
100x4 = 400+7+8+3+10 = 28
Darvlay
(100 ...[text shortened]... C K L E ***
Your time starts now.

Post your solution as soon as you get it

And demonseed is the first to pm me COCKATIEL.
Lets see if he's right...

*** C O C K A T I E L ***
Excellent, well done. Freddie weighed in with the right solution 6 minutes after demonseed. Unlucky. I think Starrman would have gotten it first if he hadn't been a bit confused with the spelling. Cockatiel can also be spelt Cockateel.
That means that there is a second Crucial Countdown Conundrum between Chris and Freddie.
*** A D I M O R E S T ***

Please, only post your solution here if you are Freddie or Chris. If you want to play the round for fun, just PM me your solution and I'll tell u privately if you are right or wrong.

No?? But seeing as AMORTISED is also a valid answer, you win the round and the game.
And so the leaderboard looks like this: Marcusr, Chris and Freddie all top the leaderboard with 1 win each.
Game 4 will be adopting the new scoring system, namely:
Normal Letters rounds: PM me the word. 1 point per letter in the letters round awarded to the person(s) with the longest word. 18 points awarded for 9 letter words.
Numbers Game: Pm me your solution. Ten points if you can get the number spot on, seven points if you're within five, and five points if you're within ten. Only closest person(s) gets the points.
Conundrum: 10 points for successfully solving the conundrum. Post the solution in this thread immediately to win the round. First person with correct solution answered here, wins the 10 points.
Person with highest number of points at the end of the game wins the game. In the event of a tie, we'll have a sudden death conundrum to decide who wins.
Game 4 is coming up at some point this evening.

For the normal letters games, If the word is in any of those dictionaries, then it's good.
The conundrums, I'm trying to get either words from the actual show, as in cockatiel 🙂, or I'm using one of the online conundrum pages to generate it.

How about this for the timing conundrum (funny play on words?)
When we get half way through the game, the leaders (2/3/4 ? people) can vote on what time the conundrum will be placed.
That way, it is fair to those who most deserve it?
Just an idea, if you do not like it, I will have to mail you a body part.
EDIT: Or, another idea. The conundrum is places as soon as Darfius posts another "copy and paste" article
😀

Also, for a entry to be valid, it needs to be accompanied by a *partaking of activity of contestants choice, while waiting for clock to run down*. The "partaking of activity of contestants choice" bit needs to be actually substituted with an actual activity of contestants choice, eh Jacko and Fred? 😉 Any PM received which doesn't have a corresponding post, will be deemed invalid. 😀
Due to the impossibility of policing, opening books, AKA dictionarys (...ies? ), are now permitted. Please use an online dictionary (dictionary.com, dictionary.co.uk, websters-online-dictionary.org) so we're working off the same book. Use of javascripts, google searches or anything else is strictly forbidden for all rounds.
On with the game...

Hello, and welcome to Countdown, game 4. I’m your host Richard Whiteley, and let me re-reintroduce my assistant, Carol Vorderman. Carol, I got an excellent letter in from Brighton Early of Landreth. He has been working hard on his anagrams, and has come up with some fantastic ones.
*Richard chuckles* *Carol smiles in eager expectation*
From “Richard Whiteley’s Countdown”, he got “It launched witchery on words” *Everybody has a wee chuckle*
From “Richard Whiteley”, he got a few: “Ah, wild cherry tie!”, “Rich wit? Ee, hardly!” and “Hairy idle wretch”. *Everybody has another wee chuckle*
Can you figure out what he got from “Carol Vorderman”? *Carol smiles, and shakes head* Sorry Richard, numbers are more of my thing. Well Carol, he got *Richard sniggers*, he got “Craved morn oral” *Richard laughs like school kid.* *Audience gasp.* *Carol smiles nervously. Eyes flick to Chris. Wipes corner of mouth.* *Chris laughs nervously. Eyes flick between Carol and notepad. Wipes corner of mouth*
Fantastic, *Richard smiles contentedly, delighted with the excellent start to the show* and now over to Coral *Richard doesn’t think it can get any better than this* for the first letters round of the game.
And the letters for Game 4, Round 1 are…
*** S M U R I B T Q O ***
Haha, *Richard laughs* SUM and BUM, two of Carol’s trademarks there. *Audience titter* *Carol exhibits one of her “trademarks”. Also shows leg.*
There’s nine in the frame, lets get on with the game.
