-Removed-I think it is not hard to have a girl who is a friend.
Unfortunately, too many guys mean something else by the term "girlfriend".
My opinion is that in the long run, focusing on getting his stability together comes first. Then a lasting romantic relationship in marriage.
He could even use the desire for his own woman as a strong incentive to complete school successfully.
Happily married here, for over 30 years. I am a Christian but was not brought up all my life in Sunday School by any means.
At the age of 59 do you know what I would like to say to a lot of girls I knew in high school and college ?
"I'm so glad we didn't touch each other when we were friends."

Don't spend a penny more than you absolutely have to on her.
Talk on the phone to her while your banging her best friend.
Wait until she's asleep and go out clubbing.
Bang someone next to her while she's asleep.
Bang your boss, bang your neighbour and for God's sake bang your nurse.
If you can't do these simple things, prepare to have her do them to you.
That's life buddy. You got a start, get banging.

I honestly won't any of those 21 things you told me except for the second part of #20.
oh and I am an assman
I'll just add a couple things that I don't see in this thread yet:
Be willing to work on yourself, and especially Your self image
Be willing to make everyone around you feel good, before you try to make yourself feel good.
Be willing to listen more often than speak
Be willing to let the people around you wash across your personality as
though your a rock in a river, each taking a piece of you with them,
rather than trying to be the water, impacting each rock.
Someday when you learn to be confident and love yourself. The respect
and love you will show everyone else will bring people to you (Women
too). Handsome guys who are jerks get girls, this is true, but notice that
respectful average joe's keep them. The most popular, coolest guy
you've ever met, (maybe a few years from now...) will be one who's
handsome and follows this wisdom.
Take it from a young guy, who has had to work on himself, when
previously I got away with just being the jerk. I've been both in this
lifetime, and I promise, being the handsome jerk only looks cool. It is
not nearly as fulfilling.
p.s opening doors, smiling, and making her smile actually does work!
