I just have one more thing to say about Western Women.

Note: Notice how Robbie talks about "girls" instead of "women".

Again this has more straw than the straw man meeting the first little pig on his way to buy strawberries, who said anything about mistreatment? You are assigning values to me that dont exist and basing an evaluation on those values. I think that divorce rates are high because of a culture of expediency compared to a culture which emphasises commitment, are you denying that such is the case?
Not sure if you're intentionally twisting my words or if you misunderstood, so i'll elaborate...I don't think the fruits of a culture of arranged marriages, honour killings, and patriarcal dominance are necessarily something we should covet in a modern society. I never said that you mistreated your wife, and i apologise if that is the way it came across, it was not the intention of the post.

I tried to soften my words to prevent insult, and i seem to have done the opposite...For that i again apologise.

Actually we are allowed to get legally married at sixteen in Scotland, that to me is not quite yet a women, however, i need to resist the temptation to insult you, its unbecoming a gentleman, suffice to say, had it been the 1800s, you would be choosing your pistols at dawn whilst wearing mlpriors handkerchief to your resting place. You have obviously no idea how determined some Scottish women can be!

(In fact, I find it hard to imagine why anyone would pretend to have chest hair...)

It appears I was correct then, you haven't been with woman. 😉

That Sir, would have been your first and last mistake. You see I was "Billy The Kid", but also known by the aliases Henry Antrim and William H. Bonney. 😛

your humility is truly refreshing my friend, it really is, in this environment of people hurling cyber rockets from behind the comfort of their pc, never the less, let us look at some of these ideas.

Firstly arranged marriages. In Islamic society it may be that a women has little or no choice to whom she is married, but not always, indeed, even in the case of an arranged marriage, the girl or boy simply states to their parents that they wish to get married. it is then the parents responsibility to find a suitable companion. After spending some time getting to know the prospective marital partner, on a purely platonic level. They may acquiesce to the arrangement, if not, the proposal is rejected and another suitor is found.

As for patriarchal dominance, how does one define it? women are free to work in India/Pakistan, free to pursue an education if they can afford it. However after marriage many choose to remain at home, looking after the house and children, for it is an art in itself. Are we to say that such a situation is one of male dominance, i dont think so, simply of differing responsibilities.

Honour killings are an abomination, a crime against humanity.

Nope, its reality, although i can see how it might be construed as such. I will not even attempt to go down the Quiet American road of Graham Greene who asks the question, are not all women to some extent or other, mercenaries! There i said it, bit i dont agree with it nor believe it, its simply a topic for discussion by someone other than me!

Didn't follow the conversation fully, but I must say it's not often you see one person say they may have been in error and the other person accept that for what it is.

Good deal.
